Leech to Receive MSUAA Alumni Service Award

Bruce Leech

Bruce Leech (BA Finance ’78) has been selected to receive the MSU Alumni Association 2014 Alumni Service Award, which honors continuing outstanding volunteer service to MSU and/or meritorious public service. Bruce has served as co-chair and sponsor of the Chicago Broad Executive Forum since 2006, serves on numerous college advisory boards, and was named the Broad College Outstanding Alumnus for 2012–13. He was nominated by Gil Harrell, professor of marketing. The award will be presented at the MSUAA Grand Awards held Thursday, September 25, during Homecoming Week.

The School Honors Alumni of the Year

At its Annual Gathering of Leaders, to be held May 19 in Chicago, The School of Hospitality Business will honor its 2014 alumni award recipients:

  • Alumnus of the Year: Stuart Wolff (BA ’82), executive vice president–Midwest, Acosta Sales and Marketing
  • Honorary Alumnus of the Year: Hasmukh P. (H.P.) Rama, chairman of the board and CEO, JHM Hotels
  • Emerging Alumni Leaders of the Year: Matthew D. Anderson (BA ’09), sales and marketing manager, Hager Fox Heating and Air Conditioning; Geoffrey P. Ryskamp (BA ’06), director of asset management, Pebblebrook Hotel Trust

Krueger Addresses Broad Graduates

Blake Krueger (BA Business ’75), chairman and CEO of Wolverine World Wide Inc., presented the keynote address at the Broad College’s undergraduate commencement, held May 3. Nearly 1,350 Broad students received their diplomas at the spring 2014 commencement ceremonies, and six of these graduates were honored with Board of Trustees Awards for earning 4.0 GPAs. MSU Coaches, Management Faculty Help Professionals Create Winning Teams

The Broad College is partnering with MSU’s Department of Intercollegiate Athletics to present Building Winning Teams: A Quest for Excellence, to be held June 3–5. Coaches such as Mark Dantonio and Tom Izzo will partner with management faculty to create a collaborative educational program that will prepare business professionals for team-leading success. Broad MBA Graduates among Nation’s Most Satisfied

MSU’s MBA graduates are among the “most satisfied” in the nation, according to Forbes. The college was ranked No. 4 in a recently released top 10 list. Broad MBAs were also ranked in the top 10 for their satisfaction with their MBA education (No. 3) and satisfaction with their current job (No. 6). More about the ranking

Students Learn to Measure Their Leadership, Teamwork

An innovative Broad course brings together second-year MBA students and management seniors to learn about their leadership aptitudes and apply teamwork concepts. Using team simulation challenges and data-driven reports, the class assists students in analyzing and improving their performance. More about the course

Three MSU buildings have attained Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) certification. More Than One Million Pounds of Waste Recycled during RecycleMania Event

MSU and hundreds of other universities participated in RecycleMania, a recycling and waste reduction tournament, this spring. In the eight weeks of competition, MSU reused or recycled more than one million pounds of materials—the second-greatest amount among Big Ten schools. More about the event
