Creating Spartan Super Heroes

Homecoming: Coming October 7–12

Join us on campus for MSU’s Homecoming celebration the week of October 7–12! Building on the theme “Creating Spartan Super Heroes,” the week will feature lots of activities across the college, including:

If you’re not able to make it to campus, you can still participate in the celebration by “glowing green.”

Broad Alumni Receive MSUAA’s Grand Awards

Four Broad College alumni were among the winners of the MSU Alumni Association’s 2013 Grand Awards and will be recognized at the awards gala on October 10 at the Kellogg Center. Winners include:

  • Tania Chopra (BA Supply Chain Management ’03) and Ryan Patrick Sullivan (BA Finance ’06), who will receive the Distinguished Young Alumni Award.
  • Alan Jay Kaufman (BA Risk and Insurance ’70), who will be recognized with the Distinguished Alumni Award.
  • Edward Jay Minskoff (Honorary PhD Business ’09), who will be acknowledged with the Outstanding Philanthropist Award.

Broad Executive Forum of Detroit – Save the Date!

The 48th Annual Broad Executive Forum of Detroit will be held October 21, 4–7:30 p.m., at a downtown location to be announced soon. Mary Barra, senior vice president of global product development and global purchasing and supply chain at General Motors—and the highest ranking woman at GM—will deliver a keynote speech about transformation and culture change in large institutions. Supply Chain Again Ranked #1 by U.S. News

For the third year running, Broad’s undergraduate supply chain management program was ranked #1 by U.S. News & World Report. The Broad College was ranked #27 overall and #16 among public institutions. Several other college programs were ranked in the top 25. More about the ranking

Eli Broad joins the Full-Time MBA orientation by Skype

First-year Full-Time MBA students had a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity during their orientation: a chance to ask questions of Eli Broad himself as he joined them virtually by Skype. MSU Co-Leads Research to Redefine Supply Chain Management

Researchers from the Department of Supply Chain Management will co-lead an ambitious new project that aims to redefine the future of supply chain on a global level. “Supply Chain Management: Beyond the Horizon” will identify and examine the capabilities necessary for strategic supply chain success. Broad Crafts Analytics Immersion Program for International Students

Broad faculty hosted a three-week immersion program in business analytics as part of an ongoing relationship with S. P. Jain Institute of Management and Research, one of India’s top business graduate schools. Students applied their new data analysis skills to solving real-world problems for Steelcase and Owens Corning. More about the program

Innovative Projects Honored with Lewis Quality Awards

Four Broad College initiatives were recognized for their innovation and continuous improvement at the fall faculty meeting and awards ceremony on September 6. Winners of the Lewis Quality of Excellence Awards included the Multicultural Business Success Academy, Building Winning Teams program, Undergraduate Business Plan Competition, and the Residential Business Program. Loyal Employees Make More, Study Shows

The first broad-scale study of worker loyalty and earnings indicates that workers who are loyal to their employers tend to be paid more. Contrary to previous studies, however, praise from supervisors was not always positively linked to worker loyalty. More about the study

MSU Athletics Releases Basketball Schedules, New Mobile App

MSU Athletics recently released the men’s basketball and women’s basketball schedules for the coming year as well as an updated mobile app. Sports fans with iOS and Android devices will now have access to live content, full game-tracker coverage, and upgraded in-app notifications.
