What is the difference between the Full-Time and Weekend MBA?

Full-Time MBA

The Full-Time MBA is a traditional 21-month MBA program. The program begins in August and ends in May two years later. Classes are held on the Michigan State University campus in East Lansing during the day, with some evening and weekend commitments. This program is open to candidates with a Bachelor's degree and two years of full-time, post-undergraduate work experience. Full-time students generally take a break from working for two years and live on or near the MSU campus in East Lansing.

Weekend MBA

The Weekend MBA program is compressed into 19 months. Students attend classes every other Saturday and some Friday evenings. Therefore, the Weekend MBA is ideal for working professionals striving to balance their career, education and home life. This program is open to professionals with a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university, full-time employment and demonstrated potential for career advancement and leadership. The Weekend MBA offers residencies and classes at two convenient locations: The Henry Center in Lansing and The Management Education Center in Troy.

Do you offer an Executive MBA?

The Weekend MBA is an executive-style program, designed for current executives and aspiring leaders. The average incoming student has over nine years of significant career experience. As an added benefit, our Weekend MBA is now available at MSU conference centers in both Lansing and Troy.

Are the admissions requirements for the Full-Time and Weekend MBA different?

Yes, the admissions criteria are different for our two MBA programs. See the general requirements for each program below:

Full-Time MBA

  • Bachelor's degree
  • At least 2 years full-time, post-undergraduate work experience recommended
  • 640 median GMAT score
  • 3.3 average GPA for admitted students, last 2 years of undergraduate, 4.0 scale

Weekend MBA

  • Full-time employment with demonstrated potential for career advancement
  • Significant work experience that will enhance contributions to the program
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university
  • Completion of the GMAT with a strong score
