Global Initiatives

Michigan State University is the leading U.S. public university in study abroad participation, and one third of Broad MBAs are international. This cultural exchange on campus serves as a microcosm of the global marketplace and facilitates learning about and sharing business practices in other parts of the world. Broad leverages this strength and prepares you for domestic and foreign business challenges through hands-on experience and courses in cultural business awareness.

Study abroad

Extending our emphasis on learning beyond the classroom, study abroad programs are conducted each May. Broad graduates understand both the global marketplace and the importance of knowing how business is done in other countries. On average, ~25% of the Broad Full-Time MBA students participate in study abroad programs each year.

International course requirement

To meet your international course requirement, you may either:

  • Study abroad
  • Take a course on campus

Although there are additional costs for study abroad, including transportation and accommodations, the three credits you earn are included in the block tuition.

If you opt out of foreign study, you may still take international business courses through the MBA program, one of which is required for all students.

International assignments

The Broad MBA program is a member of the MBA Enterprise Corps. Following graduation, selected students are able to complete a one-year international assignment, serving as a consultant for a private enterprise located in an emerging market.

International knowledge

MSU is home to the nation's top-rated International Business Center (IBC), one of 28 such federally funded initiatives that help businesses compete in the global marketplace. The Broad School and MSU's IBC support development of faculty expertise in international topics. The IBC enhances research to assist businesses as they address the challenge of competing in the global marketplace. Beyond diagnostic tools and regional economic information available on their website, the IBC:

  • Offers panels & forums for executives
  • Sponsors studies on international markets
  • Runs a training program for its business faculty
