Shashikant (Shashi) Gupta and Margaret GuptaAlumnus Establishes Scholarship Endowment to Support 20 Students

Shashikant (Shashi) Gupta (MBA ’75) and his wife Margaret have established a $2.5 million endowed fund to annually support 20 students pursuing any field of study. The students selected for support will demonstrate a continuing commitment to the values of human dignity, integrity, and excellence—values by which the Guptas live and operate their business, Apex CoVantage.

Broad EMBA Faculty Speaker Series Recharges MBA Experience

EMBA/AMP/WMBA alumni are invited for an evening designed to “Recharge Your MBA” November 1, 4:30–8 p.m. at East Lansing’s Henry Center. The inaugural Broad EMBA Faculty Speaker Series will feature presentations from two top EMBA professors, sharing their expert analysis of the latest research with insights on business relevance. The evening also features plenty of networking time to reconnect with classmates over hors d’oeuvres and a cash bar. The event is free but registration is required.

Alumni Revive Fundraising for Endowment Honoring Beloved HB Educator

Beth Perry (BA Hospitality Business ’88) and Steve Thompson (BA Hospitality Business ’87) have spearheaded fundraising for an endowment to honor the tremendous impact Angelos J. Vlahakis (Mr. V) had on students of the School of Hospitality Business. Their benchmark: to reach $90,000 by his 90th birthday in June 2017.

Broad MBA No. 1 in Increasing Graduates’ Salary, According to Latest Economist Ranking

Alumni of the Broad Full-Time MBA program are number one globally in percentage increase on pre-MBA salary, according to the Economist 2016 ranking of full-time MBA programs. The Broad MBA ranks first in the U.S. and second globally in the ranking’s overall salary category, and among the top 10 globally for students’ assessment of the career services they receive.

Scholarship Luncheon Celebrates Donors

The Broad College Scholarship Luncheon gathered donors and scholarship recipients to celebrate academic scholarships bestowed upon the college. As a result of donor support, more than 150 scholarships were awarded last year, amounting to more than $307,000 toward students’ tuition.

Professors’ Book Reveals What Kept GM in Lansing

Two Broad professors recently released Second Shift: The Inside Story of the Keep GM Movement, a book on how Lansing held onto its General Motors presence after the company decided to close the local factory. The book reviews how leaders built a movement and did the seemingly impossible: convinced General Motors to reverse its decision to close a plant for the first time in a century.

EMBA, MNA Announce Nonprofit Scholarship

The Executive MBA Program, with the support of the Michigan Nonprofit Association, has created a scholarship that will cover half of tuition fees for two individuals working full-time in the nonprofit segment. Award criteria include application credentials, commitment to making an impact on the nonprofit sector, and a proven desire to grow personally and professionally. Application materials are due by February 1, 2017, with recipients notified in mid-March.

Alumnus Launches New Social Network

Jeremy Redman (BA Accounting ’12) has launched a social network specifically for college alumni who share an alma mater and are looking to connect, find mentors, and build personal and professional relationships in new cities. Building on success among Spartans in Los Angeles, he plans to expand to other cities and schools in the coming year.

Job Market Strong for This Year’s Graduates

The hiring of college graduates should be very strong in 2016–17, according to MSU’s Recruiting Trends, the nation’s largest annual survey of employers. Hiring is expected to increase 23 percent, and starting salaries are expected to increase an average of 4 percent.

MSU Madness Coming October 14

Michigan State Madness will be held Friday, October 14. This annual event celebrates the beginning of the 2016–17 season for both the men’s and women’s basketball teams. Doors to the Breslin Center will open at 8:30 p.m. Admission is free.
