Broad College accounting program endorsed by IMA

The undergraduate accounting program at Michigan State University’s Broad College of Business has been endorsed by the Institute of Management Accountants (IMA). IMA endorsement recognizes degrees that meet the standards of education enabling students to work toward the Certified Management Accountant (CMA) credential. MSU is one of just four universities to earn endorsement from IMA.

To be endorsed by IMA, programs must cover the material on the CMA exam, have adequate faculty resources, be accredited by a recognized accreditation organization, and have a faculty member designated as an IMA Campus Advocate. Sue Convery, professor of practice in the Department of Accounting and Information Systems, is the IMA Campus Advocate for MSU.

Through IMA, students gain access to internships, scholarships, the IMA Student Leadership Conference, and many other networking opportunities.

“IMA is pleased to announce the endorsement of Michigan State University,” said Raef Lawson, IMA vice president of research and professor-in-residence. “Educational programs that are aligned with the needs of business are crucial in addressing the competency crisis in the accounting profession.”

IMA is one of the largest, most respected associations focused exclusively on advancing the management accounting profession through continuing education, research, the CMA program, networking, and advocacy of ethical business practices. In addition to 300 local professional and student chapters, IMA has a global network of more than 20,000 CMA members in more than 100 countries.
