Students recognized at fall commencement

Almost 400 Broad College of Business students will receive their diplomas at commencement ceremonies held December 12–13 at Michigan State University’s Jack Breslin Student Events Center.

On Friday, December 12, 104 Broad College advanced degree students will receive their diplomas from the following programs:

Teresa Sullivan, president of the University of Virginia, will speak at the advanced degree ceremony at 3:30 p.m. Prior to her position as president, she served as provost and executive vice president for academic affairs at the University of Michigan. She will be given an honorary doctorate of laws at the graduation ceremony. Also receiving an honorary doctorate of laws will be Robert Clark Jr., a retired Mississippi legislator and civil rights advocate.

The undergraduate commencement ceremony will take place at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, December 13, with 293 receiving degrees in the following programs:

George Will, columnist for the Washington Post, will give the commencement address at the Broad College undergraduate ceremony. Will won a Pulitzer Prize in 1977 for commentary for his columns and became a contributor to Fox News’ daytime and primetime programming in 2013. He will receive an honorary doctorate of humanities at the ceremony. Graduates

Rev. James Wallis, spiritual adviser to President Barack Obama, will also receive an honorary doctorate of humanities at that ceremony.

Two Broad students received Board of Trustees’ Awards for having the highest grade point average at the close of their last semesters at Michigan State University. Dominique Johnson (BA Hospitality Business ’14) and Jiyeun Kim (BA Hospitality Business ’14) both earned a 4.0 GPA and were recognized at the Dec. 12 Board of Trustees meeting.
