Undergraduate Research Fellows, Broad Scholar programs offer students experience, new skills

This year, 47 students are participating in the Broad Scholar Program, which offers Michigan State University Broad College of Business undergraduates the opportunity to work closely with a faculty member in their area of interest throughout the year. This is the 20th year of the Broad Scholar Program.

Broad Scholars develop experience in academic research practices in their field, while their faculty mentors benefit from additional research support.

Undergraduate Research Fellows receive a $1,000 stipend for the academic year and assist their faculty mentors with a variety of research-related activities, from data collection to publishing articles on results.

“Being a research assistant has taught me new skills such as data analysis and has opened up a new world of information to me. My writing skills have been honed both by writing my own research and critiquing the research of others,” Allison Kubek (BA Hospitality Business ’15) said. “Most of all, it has given me a newfound appreciation of research of all kinds and its importance.”

On April 10, 2015, the Undergraduate Research Fellows will present their work to peers, faculty, and external audiences at the annual University Undergraduate Research and Arts Forum at the MSU Union.
