Michigan State University Broad College of Business Full-Time MBA Class of 2016 students leveraged opportunities to interact with global companies and enjoy activities during a European study abroad in May. Here, they share what they picked up along the way.
Headquartered in Munich, Germany, Allianz is one the world’s larger financial service providers that serves three major businesses—property and casualty insurance, life and health insurance, and asset management. We were introduced to the company’s history, financial performance, and key business activities.
Presentations were essential not only to finance majors, but also to supply chain management students. The site visit gave us a new perspective on how a financial services company operates, a real business practice that is hard to learn from textbooks.
The company’s current European operations, including in Germany, will be expanded to other countries, such as France and Italy. Allianz also operates in North America and the Asia-Pacific region, and the United States and Japan are two of its key global markets. As a global leader in the insurance business, Allianz can seize and leverage the opportunity of asset management to improve operational profits.
As the nature of financial products becomes more and more complicated, a strong brand reputation is important to Allianz. We learned that the company’s overall brand value has grown continuously in a decade, even while facing strict competition.
