With this annual award, AMS recognizes a marketing scholar’s outstanding career achievement and global impact. Hult will accept the honor at the 2016 AMS Annual Conference May 19 in Orlando, Florida.

Hult is the Byington Endowed Chair, professor of marketing and international business, and director of the International Business Center (CIBER) at the Eli Broad College of Business at Michigan State University.

“Recipients of this award are those who are changing the way we do science in marketing,” said Helen Brown, academic outreach manager with Vector Marketing Corporation.

Linda Ferrell, president of the Academy of Marketing Science, added that “Cutco-Vector has been a loyal supporter of teaching and learning for many years. When Cutco-Vector endowed the AMS Distinguished Marketing Educator Award, the intent was to annually honor top scholars among the worldwide marketing professorate for their outstanding career achievements. Dr. Tomas Hult truly embodies the qualities that are intended by Cutco-Vector’s endowing the AMS / CUTCO-Vector Distinguished Marketing Educator Award.”

“I am truly honored and delighted by the AMS Board of Governors selecting me for the 2016 AMS / CUTCO-Vector Distinguished Marketing Educator Award,” said Hult. “This award is both a humbling experience and a recognition from peers whom I admire and a field to which I am so dedicated in research, teaching, and service,” he said.

In addition to his roles at MSU, Hult has been the executive director of the Academy of International Business (AIB) and president of the AIB Foundation since 2004. He is also president and board member of the Sheth Foundation, which seeks to develop and recognize scholars and scholarship in marketing globally. He served as editor-in-chief of the Journal of the Academy of Marketing Science 2009–2015.

“This award is a testament to the hard work and dedication Tomas puts toward his research. The broad impact his work has on the global community is immense, and we are very proud to have him as a colleague here at the Broad College of Business,” said Sanjay Gupta, the Eli and Edythe L. Broad Dean of the college.

Hult’s research has been cited more than 26,000 times per Google Scholar, and Thomson Reuters recognized him as the world’s third most cited scholar in marketing in their 1997–2007 Essential Science Indicators. His focus areas are international business/marketing, global supply chain management, global strategy, and marketing strategy.

“In his generation of marketing scholars, he is by far the eminent voice in both marketing strategy and international marketing,” said Roger Calantone, chair of MSU’s Department of Marketing.

Hult was elected president of the 17-university coalition of CIBER schools for 2015–2016 and is a member of the U.S. District Export Council. Locally, he serves as part of the International Trade Center of Mid-Michigan, the Economic Club of Greater Lansing, and the Lansing Regional Sister Cities Commission.

He has been responsible for raising some $14 million in contracts and grants for MSU since 2001.
