Ele’s Place in Broad’s Heart

By Caroline Brooks

Business aside, if there is one thing Michigan State University’s Broad students, faculty, and staff can rally behind, it’s making an impact on a good cause. Earlier this month, the Broad College of Business MBA Association (MBAA) held annual fundraiser for Ele’s Place, a statewide healing center for grieving children and teens.

The event broke previous years’ records in attendance and money raised, totaling $7,160 in donations, more than $800 above 2015’s total, for the charity.

“We chose Lansing’s Ele’s Place based on their mission and the good they’re delivering to children in the hardest moments and greatest times of need,” said Daniel Napier (MBA Supply Chain Management ’16), vice president of fundraising for the MBAA. “The loss of a parent or loved one can be incredibly difficult on a child, or anyone for that matter, and Ele’s Place is a fantastic organization doing great work to improve the lives of these individuals in Lansing.”

The fundraiser, held at the Eagle Eye Golf Course near MSU’s campus, included both live and silent auctions. Items in the silent action raised over $1,500 and included gift cards and merchandise from local businesses in the Lansing area. The highest-ticket live auction items were the donated “experiences” with Broad faculty, including a catered evening of wine tastings and a full-service limousine ride to Soaring Eagle Casino and Resort in Mt. Pleasant.

“Board members connected with many local organizations and businesses for events for donations, and the entire event would have been impossible without their, the faculty’s, and the administration’s support,” Napier said.

The MBAA, Broad’s largest Full-Time MBA student organization, provides opportunities for students to build personal and professional relationships beyond the classroom. This was MBAA’s eighteenth annual fundraiser, the fourth time benefitting Ele’s Place.
