100 Men Making a Difference

When it comes to taking care of business, John Miller (EMBA ’89) has the bases covered—across corporate, higher education, and charity.

Miller, who retired from his role as director of the Broad College of Business Executive MBA program in 2014, found a new calling in the Detroit community: the 100 Men’s Club.

Comprised of 100 like-minded, philanthropic men from the Detroit area ranging from recent college graduates to retirees like Miller, the group has already made tremendous impact on local charities like SOAR Detroit and Shades of Pink since its December 2016 inception.

The 100 Men’s Club concept is simple:

  • Gather 100 men from the area for one hour, once every three months
  • Any member nominates local charities or causes to support by presenting them before fellow members
  • Members vote by ballot on the nominated charity or cause that he wishes to support
  • The charity or cause with most votes wins
  • Each member writes a $100 check to the recipient charity, totaling $10,000 or more

“100 Men Club is a unique avenue for guys to make a big impact with a relatively small investment of time and money,” Miller told  Detroit Free Press.

Inspired by fellow clubs across the U.S. with a similar mission, the Detroit 100 Men’s Club hopes to make a difference on causes ranging from food banks to inner-city fitness programs.

Prior to his near decade at the Broad College of Business, Miller spent more than 30 years in the automotive industry having worked for Ford Motor Company, Chrysler, American Motors Corporation, and MSX International.
