An alumnus of the Broad College of Business takes many forms of leadership, one of the most significant being an appointment on the college’s Alumni Board.
Members of this high-impact community have a deciding role in the college’s programs and initiatives, including leadership, industry connections, and establishing scholarships and faculty funding. These four-year positions also allow the Broad College to have its finger on the pulse of issues and trends impacting the world’s largest companies.
In 2017, the Broad College will appoint eight new members to its board, representing diverse industries and leadership responsibilities.
Linda Blair (FTMBA ’98): President and CEO of ITC Holdings
Blair is CEO of the largest independent electric transmission company in the U.S. Born in Scotland, she now resides in Novi, and she also serves as the president of Novi Parks Foundation.
Danielle Brown (BA Accounting ’99): VP of Human Resources and Chief Diversity Officer, Google
Michigan native Brown splits her time between Santa Clara, CA, and Phoenix, AZ. Brown was hired by Google earlier in 2017 to improve diversity and inclusion, after nearly a decade of success with Intel.
John Duffey (BA Accounting ’82): President and CEO, Six Flags Entertainment
Duffey graduated from Broad as a Certified Public Accountant, and he says MSU helped develop the strong work ethic and communication skills he still practices in his career. John and his wife Becky have given generously to the university and the Broad College. All three of the Duffeys’ children are Spartans, and John and Becky attend almost every home football game.
Alison Gleeson (BA Marketing ’87): SVP of Sales, North America, Cisco
Gleeson oversees sales in the largest of the Cisco’s four geographic regions. She is a vocal advocate for women in the workplace and has held multiple board positions in support of these initiatives, including Global Executive Sponsor and Global Board President of Cisco’s Connected Women’s Network.
Tim Griffith (BA Economics ’91): SVP and CFO, Marathon Oil
Prior to his role at Marathon Oil, Griffith held leadership roles at banking, automotive, manufacturing, and packaging companies. He is chair of the investment committee for the Boy Scouts of America Black Swamp Council, as well as the treasurer of Berry Boys Scouts.
David Hoogendoorn: Managing Partner, EY
In his role at EY, Hoogendorn Hoogendoorn is responsible for market leadership and growth of the assurance, tax, and advisory services, and enriching the practice’s brand, people, quality, and operational excellence in West Michigan. He serves on the Leadership Team of EY’s Family Business Center of Excellence. Hoogendorn is an active member of the Grand Rapids community, treasurer of the executive committee for the Gerald R. Ford Presidential Foundation, Goodwill Industries, and the West Michigan Sports Commission. He played a pivotal role in EY’s $1 million gift to the Broad College earlier in 2017.
Nick Nicolay (BA Marketing ’77, FTMBA ’79): President, Kar’s Nuts
Nicolay is the third generation leader of Kar’s Nuts, becoming president in 1995. Nicolay serves on the board of directors for Awakened Ministries, a nonprofit Christian organization, and also actively involved in the Ferndale community.
Ray Scott (FTMBA ’02): EVP and President, Seating Division, Lear Corporation
Scott played an important role in orchestrating Lear’s $1.5 million gift to the Business Pavilion, for which the college will name the lobby of the Pavilion. Since joining Lear in 1988, Scott has held a series of increasingly responsible positions at Lear, both in Europe and in the U.S.
