Opportunities are available to newly admitted students by way of the Broad Scholar Program, and to current Broad students by way of the Undergraduate Research Fellow scholarship.
In addition to research opportunities offered within the Broad college, MSU houses a database of research opportunities through VENTURE. MSU faculty looking for undergraduate students to assist them with their research post information about their projects through this database. Additionally, select off-campus and summer opportunities are also posted on VENTURE.
Founded in fall 1995, the Broad Scholar Program is an undergraduate student mentor program designed to provide more opportunities for first-year, business-preference students to work closely with faculty members in the Eli Broad College of Business.
This paid employment opportunity is similar to the Honors College Professorial Assistantship Program, as it provides valuable experience collaborating with a faculty member. The program is designed to:
Broad Scholars are expected to work an average of 10 hours each week during fall and spring semesters. They participate in a variety of scholarly activities: assisting in publication efforts, data collection and research. Only a select few are admitted into this program, and reappointment as a sophomore is possible pending satisfactory performance as determined by the faculty mentor and the program coordinator.
Broad Scholar positions are limited, and restricted to incoming Michigan State University students only. First consideration will be given to students who:

Application Decisions: Notifications will be sent via the coordinator for the Broad Undergraduate Research experience on June 7, 2021, at 5:00 p.m. EST.
The Undergraduate Research Fellow (URF) scholarship is an undergraduate student mentor program that provides more opportunities for undergraduate students to work closely with faculty members at Broad. The scholarship value ranges from $1,200 to $1,500 for the academic year.
An integral part of leadership and professional development will be available through research seminars facilitated by Undergraduate Research at Michigan State University, networking opportunities and presentation experiences. These events are available throughout the year.
Undergraduate Research Fellow scholarships are limited, and restricted to current MSU students who are admitted to Broad (business-admitted, accounting, finance, hospitality business, human resource management, management, marketing, and supply chain management majors). In order to be considered for this scholarship, students must be nominated by a Broad College faculty member.
Any student who accepts the nomination must agree to present at the University Undergraduate Research and Arts Forum during the following Spring semester as a condition of the scholarship.
