Agarwal Receives Alumni Award
Milind Agarwal (MBA ’94), CEO of Logindia/Marketune and Teamchat/Webaroo as well as founder and national coordinator of the MSU Alumni Club of India, visited campus March 23 to receive alumni award recognition from MSU International Studies and Programs and the MSU Alumni Association. He also met with Broad faculty during his visit.
Broad Hosts “Advancing Women in Business”
The Broad College will host “Advancing Women in Business” Wednesday, April 20, 5:30–7:30 p.m. at the Henry Center. The event provides an opportunity to network with other professional women and hear the stories of three successful Spartans: Carrie Beia (MBA ’06), senior HR business consultant for Jackson National Life Insurance; Rose Glendinning (MBA ’17), entrepreneur and emerging HR expert; and Nancy Vella (BA Accounting ’79), tax director and national well-being leader for Deloitte Tax. Free advance registration is required by Monday, April 18.
Alumni Receptions Abroad
The MSU Alumni Club of India will host a networking reception Thursday, April 28, in New Delhi, India, for all Broad College alumni as well as Broad Full-Time MBA admitted students and Executive MBA students on study abroad. Meet at 7 p.m. at Cafe Out of the Box in Hauz Khas Village. Admission is approximately $36 USD per person, which includes dinner and beverages. RSVP to Atit Bhatia.
The Department of Accounting and Information Systems will host a reception Friday, May 13, in Shanghai, China. Alumni and newly admitted students have been invited to meet and network over a free buffet dinner. RSVPs have been requested by today, April 15.
Newest Alumni to Be Honored at Graduation for Philanthropy
May graduates will be acknowledged for their contributions to MSU. Graduates who donate at least $50 to any MSU fund during their senior year will be permitted to wear the green-and-white philanthropy cord at commencement. Family members may donate in a student’s name if they wish. Contact Brian Keehner with questions.
U.S. News Increases Its Ranking of Broad MBA
Broad’s Full-Time MBA Program increased its ranking to No. 14 among public universities and No. 35 overall in the U.S. News & World Report 2017 Best Business Schools rankings. Broad was also ranked the country’s No. 2 school for graduate study in supply chain/logistics, continuing a streak of almost 15 years.
General Motors has awarded a grant to the college to support the Marketing Leadership Advisory Board and audio-visual enhancements at the James B. Henry Center. Dan Ahearn (BA Personnel Administration ’85), Marketing Leadership Advisory Board member and field performance manager for General Motors, presented the check.
NSF Awards $200K Research Grant
Three Broad researchers have been awarded a $200,000 National Science Foundation grant to examine social networks within and among federally funded national laboratories devoted to particle physics. Their study, “Organizational Boundary Spanning in Large Collaborative Science,” examines the role of collaboration within teams, among teams, and among organizations in promoting performance in scientific projects.
MBA Students Raise Five-Figure Donation to Greater Lansing Food Bank
Broad Full-Time MBA students used a variety of creative tactics to raise more than $13,000 in donations for the Greater Lansing Food Bank. The funds translate to more than 100,000 meals for needy locals.
Graduate and undergraduate students pitched their business startup ideas to a panel of judges at the Broad Business Model Competition in hopes of winning seed money. The ideas presented ranged from social apps to specialized medical products.
Despite Tournament Loss, Men’s Basketball Recognized for Achievement
Spartan men’s basketball fans can take some consolation in the team’s recent recognition. Coach Izzo has been elected to the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame, and star player Denzel Valentine has been named Big Ten Player of the Year, NABC National Player of the Year, and Associated Press National Player of the Year.
Free Spring Football Game, Youth Clinic Coming April 23
MSU’s football team concludes its spring practices with the Green-White intrasquad game on Saturday, April 23, at 3 p.m. in Spartan Stadium. Admission and parking are free. Prior to the spring game, MSU’s coaching staff and players will conduct a free football clinic for children ages 8–12.
