Emily Regan (BA Hospitality Business ’10) won an Olympic gold medal in rowing August 13. She competed as part of the U.S. women’s coxed eight team, which has not lost a major international championship in more than a decade.
If you are attending this fall’s MSU home football games, join us at the Broad College’s tailgates, held two hours before each home game:
Look for the Broad College tent, flutter flags, and the giant inflatable Sparty figure along Red Cedar Road, near the southeast corner of the stadium. There’s no charge and no RSVP is required.

Condescending comments, put-downs, and sarcasm have become commonplace in the politically charged workplace. A new study by a Broad professor shows how this incivility may be spreading: experiencing such rude behavior reduces employees’ self-control and leads them to act in a similarly uncivil manner.
Scientific studies led by a Broad scholar found that people with high social status who didn’t believe they had earned that status were much more generous than high-status people who felt they deserved the respect and admiration of others. The research project is one of the first of its kind.
For the last three years, Forbes has asked college students and alumni to use social media to share why their school is the best of the best. Spartans shared photos of campus, memories of game days, points of pride about MSU’s research, and more to propel the university to No. 3 overall in the competition.
Fathers impact their children’s development more than is commonly appreciated, according to new MSU research findings. The study indicated that children’s cognitive and language development, behavior problems, and social skills (such as self-control and cooperation) were significantly affected by fathers’ parenting-related stress and mental health struggles.
MSU’s tobacco-free ordinance went into effect August 15, banning the use of any form of tobacco, including e-cigarettes and vaporizers. The ordinance applies to all property governed by the MSU Board of Trustees, including not only main campus but also all MSU sites across the state, nation, and globe.
On September 2, the 12th annual College Colors Day encourages Spartans to wear their team colors and share their school spirit with friends and colleagues. Tools are available to make social media profile pictures that leave no doubt about your loyalties, and sharing the green and white on social media with the hashtag #CollegeColors enters you to win new spirit gear.
