Beats, Brews, and (Dog) Breath concepts win undergraduate Business Pitch Competition

Students showcased their entrepreneurial ideas at this year’s undergraduate Business Pitch Competition on Saturday, December 1. Five finalist groups presented 5-minute pitches to an experienced panel, including Heyden Graham from QuickenLoans and Bizdom; Joseph Helgert, managing director of the Broad College’s Institute for Entrepreneurship; and Mark Hooper (BA Accounting ’76), co-founder of Andrews Hooper Pavlik PLC and principle in Capital Community Angels. Here are this year’s winning teams:

  • First place and $5,000: Josh Leider (marketing senior) and Benjamin Ebert-Zavos (hospitality business senior) for Tempo Run — an application allowing runners to design a playlist specific for some desired pace
  • Second place and $2,500: Anna Lukibanova (supply chain management junior) and Michael Spreng for Twin Pints Cooperative — a brewpub that will engage craft beer drinkers
  • Third place and $1,000: Zach Brunmeier (general management senior), Andrea Conover, Brian Mamassian (finance senior), Brooke Vanderkelen (finance senior), and Jennifer Ziegler for Top Dog Tablets — a tablet that dissolves in a dog’s water dish to fight the buildup of biofilm on teeth and gums

In addition, guests at the event invested ‘Broad’ dollars to place their votes for the most promising concepts. These People’s Choice Awards and $500 each went to Top Dog Tablets and Twin Pints Cooperative.
