Spartans to Play in Cotton Bowl; Quick Action Required for Tickets
The Spartan football team will play Baylor University in the Goodyear Cotton Bowl Classic in Arlington, Texas, on Thursday, January 1, with kickoff set for 12:30 p.m. EST. Official bowl tours are available from the MSU Alumni Association. Deadlines for game ticket requests are tight. Donors and season ticket holders wanting tickets must request them by tomorrow, Wednesday, December 10, at 6 p.m. Students must request tickets by noon that day. Other alumni and the general public may request any remaining tickets beginning Friday, December 12. Tickets to the official tailgate (included in tour packages) are also available. Broad Executive MBA Program Hosting 50-Year Celebration Event
Join fellow Broad Executive MBA alumni and faculty in celebrating 50 years of turning high potential into high performance on May 14, 2015, at the Fillmore Detroit. 50 Years of Excellence: The Broad Executive MBA Celebration provides an opportunity to reconnect and celebrate with your class, whether you’re a recent graduate or one of our successful class of 1966 alumni. Graduates of the Advanced Management Program (AMP), Executive MBA (EMBA), and Weekend MBA (WMBA) and their spouses or guests are welcome. Students to Join Ranks of Alumni This Weekend
More than 300 Broad College students will receive their diplomas at commencement ceremonies held December 12–13 at the Breslin Center. Three of them will be recognized with Board of Trustees’ Awards for having a 4.0 grade point average.
Broad Business Pitch Competition Highlights Students’ Ingenuity
Students demonstrated their creativity with business ideas spanning fields as diverse as fashion, educational technology, and urban planning at the 2014 Broad Business Pitch Competition finals, held Thursday, November 20. Six entrepreneurial-minded teams from across MSU and the Broad College had five minutes each to sell their ideas to a distinguished panel of judges for cash prizes to support their new businesses.
Spartans Face Firing Squad, Emerge Victorious
For the second year in a row, a team of students from The School of Hospitality Business earned top honors in a pitch competition at the North America Hotel Investment Conference in Chicago, held November 19–21. The competition, titled “The Firing Squad: Where Great Ideas Are Executed,” is based loosely on ABC’s Shark Tank television program. The students won top honors for their hotel concept, NOMAD.
One Firm’s Loss Is Another’s Gain
Research by a marketing professor reveals that customers who walk into a business unhappy with another firm’s service can be won over with simple gestures of goodwill. When a completely unrelated company makes a goodwill gesture, the customer’s attitude toward that unaffiliated company improves significantly.
MSU Launches New Advertising Campaign
On Wednesday, December 3, MSU launched its newest television ad on ESPN2 during the ACC/Big Ten Challenge against Notre Dame. The ad is part of a new Spartans Will campaign that will include ads during nationally televised Spartan athletic events; in Chicago, Detroit, Los Angeles, and Atlanta airports; in in-flight magazines for Delta and United Airlines; and in digital and social media properties.
University Reduces Coal Use by More Than Half
MSU’s annual sustainability report reveals significant gains in the areas of energy use, waste reduction, and more. The university has reduced its coal use by 65 percent since 2009-10 and diverted about 57 percent of its waste in the past academic year.
MSU: A Top Producer of Global Citizens
MSU leads the state in international student enrollment and study abroad participation, according to a new report placing MSU in the top 10 nationally for both. 7,704 international students enrolled during the 2013–14 academic year, and more than 2,500 students studied abroad in 2012–13.
Culinary Services Among Nation’s Top 25
A recent ranking for campus food offerings places MSU’s Culinary Services dining program at No. 24, with an A+ score among traditional U.S. four-year colleges and universities. This makes MSU’s dining program the top university dining service in Michigan.
