A group of alumni celebrate at the Rose Bowl pre-event

Spirited Broad Alumni Gather for College Meet-Up in Pasadena

On December 30, more than 150 Broad College alumni attended a Rose Bowl pre-event at 33 Taps, a restaurant at the iconic corner of Hollywood and Vine in Los Angeles. Attendees celebrated Spartan football success while connecting with alumni of all ages, including Broad College alumni board members Rick Rowe (BA Hotel & Restaurant Management ’88, MBA Finance ’96) and Nancy Vella (BA Accounting ’79), as well as faculty and staff such as Sanjay Gupta (PhD Accounting ’90), associate dean for MBA and professional master’s programs, and David Closs (BA ’72, MBA ’76, PhD ’78), chair of the Department of Supply Chain Management and three-time MSU alumnus. Thanks to all those in attendance for making it a wonderful time, and congratulations to the Spartan football team on a fantastic Rose Bowl win!

Make a Sweet Escape with The School’s Destination Auction

Join us for Destination Auction: Sweet Escapes on Saturday, February 8, at the Kellogg Hotel and Conference Center. The event features a great variety of items, including vacations, unique culinary experiences, one-of-a-kind memorabilia, and admission to popular theater and sporting events—all generously donated by alumni and supporters. This annual charity auction raises funds for The School’s student Hospitality Association, its Alumni Association, and two local charities: the Junior League of Lansing and the MSUFCU Institute for Arts and Creativity at the Wharton Center. Business Analytics Students Assist City Policy Makers with Real Estate Challenge

The City of Lansing turned to master’s students in Broad’s business analytics program for advice on how to approach the challenges of ticketed and tagged properties. Their in-depth analysis of the city’s 43,000 property parcels revealed some clear trends in neighborhood decline. More about the program

Communication Center Wins 1st Place in Design Competition

The Ernst & Young Communication Center renovation won first place at the Association of University Interior Designers 2013 Design Competition in the $50,000 to $150,000 renovations category. The center assists master’s in accounting students in developing their public speaking, writing, and interviewing skills. More about the competition

College Programs Partner with CFA, IMA

Broad’s undergraduate and MBA programs in finance have been re-affirmed as CFA program partners in recognition of their ethics, professional standards, and usefulness in preparing to seek the CFA designation. Meanwhile, the undergraduate accounting program has been endorsed by the Institute of Management Accountants for its usefulness to those seeking a CMA credential.

President Simon Named Chair of Federal Reserve Detroit Branch

MSU President Lou Anna K. Simon has been appointed chair of the Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago’s Detroit Branch. The Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago is one of 12 regional reserve banks that, along with the Board of Governors in Washington, D.C., make up the nation’s central bank. More about the position

A journalism class researched international students’ questions about American culture and slang phrases that may be confusing and published 100 Questions and Answers about Americans, a book now available for purchase. More about the guide

Free Legal Clinics Offered for Entrepreneurs

MSU’s College of Law is leading an initiative to help west Michigan and mid-Michigan entrepreneurs and small businesses with their questions regarding patents, copyrights, and trademarks through individual consultations. Appointment slots are limited and prior appointments are required, so interested entrepreneurs and small firms are encouraged to register immediately. More about the clinic
