GM AMP/EMBA/WMBA Event Friday in Detroit

The Broad College and General Motors are hosting a meet and greet this Friday, July 18, at the GM Renaissance Center in Detroit. Students, prospective students, and alumni of the Weekend MBA Program—as well as alumni of the former Executive MBA and Advanced Management Programs—who work at GM are invited for networking and breakfast.

Detroit-Area SCM Grads to Meet for Dinner

Supply chain management graduates in the Detroit area have organized a Table of Spartans event on Tuesday evening, July 29. This networking opportunity, hosted by MSU Alumni of Metro Detroit, will take place at Mojave Cantina in Clawson. RSVPs are requested by July 25.

Grandparents University Introduces Young Spartans to MSU

Alumni and their grandchildren came together June 24–26 for Grandparents University, a three-day, on-campus experience. Broad faculty provided courses on topics from entrepreneurship to culinary skills, and many alumni returned to share this special time with their families.

Gupta Named Acting Dean

Sanjay Gupta, acting dean of the Broad CollegeOn June 20, the MSU Board of Trustees approved Sanjay Gupta, associate dean for MBA and professional master’s programs and the the Russell E. Palmer Endowed Professor of Accounting, as acting dean of the Broad College effective August 1. During his tenure as associate dean, Gupta facilitated the launch of new master’s programs in business analytics and management, strategy, and leadership. The MBA program also increased its position in global and national rankings and average GMAT scores of entering students rose by 15 points. Gupta served as chair of the Department of Accounting and Information Systems from 2007–2012. Glenn Omura, associate professor of marketing, has been appointed acting associate dean for MBA and professional master’s programs.

Broad Faculty Help to Prepare Music Students for Entrepreneurship

A collaboration between Broad’s Executive Development Programs and the College of Music is helping to prepare music students to take advantage of business opportunities in the music industry. The course reviews revenue-generating opportunities and walks students through the process of building and pitching a business plan.

Demmer Center Trains Students to Assist Major Companies

The Demmer Center for Business Transformation assists organizations in developing lean operations through the expertise of staff and of students trained as lean apprentices. Since 2012, more than 40 companies have been assisted utilizing the efforts of more than 70 students. These clients and the processes they improve come from a variety of industries—multi-billion dollar Fortune 500 companies like Lear, government entities, smaller local businesses, and even nonprofits, such as hunger relief organization Manna’s Market.

Broad Grad Launches Mobile Accessory Startup

Jeremy Lindlbauer (BA Supply Chain Management ’14) has founded TurtleCell to tackle the problem of tangled phone headphones. Through the assistance of Spartan Innovations and the MSU Innovation Center, the company is starting to grow.

Planetarium Celebrates 50 Years

MSU’s Abrams Planetarium has been bringing full-dome shows with live presentation and engaging interactive multimedia to the area since 1964. It marks its 50th anniversary with the installation of a new star projector.

Spartan Student-Athletes Named Big Ten Distinguished Scholars

The Big Ten Conference recently released its list of Big Ten Distinguished Scholars, student-athletes recognized for earning a GPA of 3.7 or higher for the 2013–14 academic year. The list included 59 MSU students—11 of them part of the Broad College.
