Hospitality Business: Destination Auction, The Roaring 20s

Destination Auction is the premiere fundraising event for The School of Hospitality Business student Hospitality Association and its Alumni Association.  Destination Auction features spectacular individual travel and experience packages donated by alumni and other industry friends in both live and silent auctions. This popular event draws hundreds of community members, alumni, students, and faculty, and helps fund a number of programs in The School of Hospitality Business.  

With a different theme each year, Auction is an exciting, colorful event, organized and led by students in partnership with School alumni.  There is a $10 donation requested at the door (food and beverage provided, cash bar).

Hospitality Business: Graduate Student Forum

Graduate students in The School of Hospitality Business will participate in its Annual Graduate Student Forum on Friday, April 20 at the James B. Henry Center for Executive Development.  Now in its 13th year, the annual spring tradition allows graduate students in The School to present their research and answer questions from fellow students and faculty and staff members.  “The idea is to give students an opportunity to hone their speaking and presentation skills and their ability to think on their feet – all in a supportive, friendly environment,” says Melissa Bankroff, graduate programs coordinator for The School.

The premier annual event in The School is Les Gourmets. Founded as a student organization in 1951, students in Les Gourmets produced their first dinner in 1955. Starting as a simple buffet and dinner dance, the event has since evolved into a formal, seven-course, world-class reception and dinner showcasing the talents of hundreds of student volunteers and all they have learned from their professors and work experiences. With the guidance of faculty members and guest chefs, the students work in all areas – management, sales, marketing, purchasing, finance, culinary management, bartending, and serving – creating a night to remember each spring for hundreds of guests.

Join us in celebrating the May 2018 Graduating Class of The School of Hospitality Business at our Newest Alumni Brunch from 11:00am to 1:00pm. The brunch is intended for both graduate and undergraduate hospitality business students and their family members.

Celebrate your accomplishments, receive a special gift, and take photos with classmates, family, and friends. Please RSVP to shbsirc@msu.edu. Hospitality business graduating student is complimentary (there is a cost for family  members).

Commencement ceremonies are scheduled as listed below.

  • Master’s Degree Commencement ceremony at 3:30 p.m. (Breslin Center) on Friday, May 4.

Hospitality Business: Annual Gathering of Leaders Award Ceremony & Celebratory Reception (Chicago)

Homecoming: Hospitality Business Spartan Sponsors Mentor Program

Spartan Sponsors Mentor Program provides an opportunity for students and alumni with similar career interests to be paired together for mentoring. During this 2-hour annual event scheduled during Homecoming, students and alumni can meet each other for conversation and sharing. The connections made are a win-win, broadening the students’ perspectives and allowing practicing professionals to share insights and “give back” in a way that can help a young person start down a path to success.
