Hospitality Business: Hilton Lecture Series

Hilton Lecture Series is hosted each year and addresses a single, topical issue facing the hospitality industry from both the hospitality industry’s and the hospitality academy’s perspectives.  This innovative lecture series began in 1991 and continues to bring leading hospitality experts to campus each fall.  The Fall 2017 event will focus on print media.

2017 Hilton Lecture Series: Print Media 

  • Eliza Selig, Director of Communication at Hospitality Financial and Technology Professionals.  As the Director of Communications for Hospitality Financial and Technology Professionals (HFTP), a non-profit, international association, she manages and produces a wide-variety of communication, educational and marketing projects. Eliza is the in-house editor, author, manager, consultant and designer for all communications projects, helping the organization produce successful publications that meet the organization’s goals.
  • Atul Sheel, Ph.D., Graduate Program Director and Associate Professor of Finance at University of Massachusetts (Isenberg School of Management).  Atul received his Ph.D. in Business Administration (Finance) from the University of Massachusetts. He has several years of quality executive experience in the hospitality industry. He has published several refereed papers in national and international refereed journals including the Cornell Hotel and Restaurant Administration Quarterly, Journal of Hospitality and Tourism Research, Journal of Hospitality Financial Management, Journal of Quality Assurance in Hospitality and Tourism, and Hospitality Research Journal. He is the editor of the Journal of Hospitality Financial Management and serves on the editorial review board of several important refereed journals including the Cornell Hospitality Quarterly, International Journal of Contemporary Hospitality Management, International Journal of Hospitality and Tourism Administration, the Journal of Food Service Business Research, and the UNLV Journal of Hospitality, Tourism and Leisure Science.

Homecoming: Hospitality Business Spartan Sponsor Mentor Program

Spartan Sponsors Mentor Program is a program in which students and alumni with similar career interests are paired with each other. During this 2-hour annual event scheduled during MSU Homecoming week, students and alumni have the opportunity to meet each other for conversation and sharing. The connections made are a win-win, broadening the students’ perspectives and allowing practicing professionals to share insights and “give back” in a way that can help a young person start down a path to success.

Homecoming: Hospitality Business Alumni and Students Join in HA Parade Efforts

Hospitality Business: Career Expo XXXIX

The School of Hospitality Business hosts Career Expo XXXIX. The event will take place at the Kellogg Hotel & Conference Center on Tuesday, November 7, 2017 where more than 700 of the nation’s top hospitality students will join over 80 leading hospitality companies. Hospitality Business students (only) will have the opportunity to network with industry professionals and sign up to interview for internships and permanent positions.

  •  8 a.m. – 4 p.m. – Professional Development Programs
  • 4 p.m. – Presentation of Industry Partner of the Year
  • 5:30 p.m. – 8 p.m. – Career Fair

Interviews will take place the following day, Wednesday, November 8, 2017 from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Spartan Stadium.  Hospitality Business Students Only.

Hospitality Business: Newest Alumni Brunch

Hospitality Business: Destination Auction, The Roaring 20s

Destination Auction is the premiere fundraising event for The School of Hospitality Business Hospitality Association and its Alumni Association.  Destination Auction features spectacular individual travel and experience packages donated by alumni and other industry friends in both live and silent auctions. This popular event draws hundreds of community members, alumni, students, and faculty, and helps fund a number of programs in The School of Hospitality Business.  A portion of Destination Auction proceeds is donated to two local charities: Junior League of Lansing and Capital Area Humane Society. With a different theme each year, Auction is an exciting, colorful event, organized and led by students in partnership with The School alumni.
