SUMMARY:Lansing Economic Club With Loretta J. Ross\, "Calling in the Calling Out Culture"
DESCRIPTION:Join us Tuesday\, March 2 from 10:40 a.m. – 12:15 p.m. for the Lansing Economic Club partnering with the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr Commission of Mid-Michigan to feature Professor Loretta Ross\, Institute for Democratic Education and Culture. Professor Ross appears regularly in major media outlets about the issues of our day. She was recently featured in a New York Times piece\, “What if Instead of Calling People Out\, We Called Them In?” which will be the focus of the conversation. \nWe are facing a tumultuous future in this country\, with the rise of neo-fascism scaffolded by the Republicans in the context of neo-liberalism enabled by the Democrats. Fighting against oppression and injustice are the dues we pay for the privilege of being conscious and we are honored to be able to challenge it with great responsibility. We begin to build a unified and strategic human rights movement that weaves our strengths together\, that uses our differences as a platform for modeling a positive future built on justice and the politics of love\, rather than a return to the past based on the politics of fear and prejudice. However\, to create this movement we need to make a commitment to recognize and support each other – calling people in rather than calling them out\, a prerequisite for building a united movement for human rights. \nThe program begins at 11 a.m. Virtual networking will occur before the program from 10:40-11 a.m. and after the program from noon to 12:15 p.m.

SUMMARY:Business And Bagels: Putting A Business Case For Diversity Into Action
DESCRIPTION:How can organizations become more diverse\, equitable and inclusive in ways that help drive strategic goals\, enhance performance\, and sustain structural and cultural change in the business environment? \nAs the business environment becomes increasingly complex and uncertain\, approaches to diversity\, equity\, and belonging must respond while driving internal change. Quinetta Roberson\, Ph.D.\, uses insight from research and practice to compare current approaches and best practices while highlighting what works\, what does not\, and more importantly\, why. \nBusiness and Bagels participants will learn how to derive greater value from diversity investments and evidence-based solutions aimed at creating more inclusive environments and improving business success. \nSession Presenter\nFebruary’s Business and Bagels is delighted to host Quinetta Roberson\, Ph.D.\, newly appointed John A. Hannah Distinguished Professor in the Broad College of Business\, Department of Management and the Department of Psychology in the College of Social Science. With degrees in organizational behavior and finance\, Roberson focuses her attention on the business case for diversity and organizational justice while connecting with business and labor relations professionals.\n\nRoberson comes to Spartan nation from Villanova University as the Fred J. Springer Endowed Chair in Business Leadership and Professor in the Department of Management and Operations at The Villanova School of Business. She serves as an elected member of the Academy of Management’s Executive Committee\, where she was inducted as president in August 2020. Her work furthers MSU’s current No. 1 ranking in industrial organization psychology and No. 1 ranking in management research productivity in top academic journals.
