SUMMARY:Leadership in Action
DESCRIPTION:Join us for the 3rd Annual Leadership in Action Conference on Saturday\, August 23rd from 12pm-3:30pm. Our keynote speaker this year will be Molly Barker\, founder of Girls on the Run. During her time founding and leading Girls on the Run\, Molly Barker witnessed firsthand how systems of power—often invisible—shape the way we lead\, the way we relate\, and the way we define success. What began as a program to empower girls quickly opened Molly’s eyes to the hidden\, hierarchical “better than” systems shaping our world—and the urgent need for leadership grounded in love\, justice\, and collective wisdom. In addition to sharing the backstory to why she founded Girls on the Run\, Molly will share stories of real\, unfiltered moments with young people who have not yet been fully shaped by the systems around them. \nFollowing Molly’s keynote\, we will offer additional sessions focused on making an impact within your organizations. Come prepared to share your ideas\, learn and network! This is a free event for students and lunch will be included!

SUMMARY:Addressing the Climate Crisis: The Role of Finance
DESCRIPTION:Finance plays a pivotal role in addressing the climate crisis – not only by directing capital away from high-emission activities\, but also by enabling the rapid scaling of climate solutions. In this session\, we will explore how financial systems\, actors\, and instruments can align with climate goals\, focusing on both risks and opportunities. We will review recent developments in sustainable finance\, including regulatory shifts\, the rise of green and transition finance\, and the integration of climate-related risks into investment decisions. We will also critically examine persistent gaps – such as greenwashing\, inadequate climate disclosures\, and the mispricing of transition risks – and discuss what’s needed to move from intent to impact.\nJosé Albuquerque de Sousa is an advisor in Sustainable Finance at GIZ\, where he focuses on Central Bank advisory\, and was a former Finance Faculty at the Norwegian School of Economics. SUMMARY:The Warrington Lecture featuring Sherron Watkins
DESCRIPTION:Join us for the Sylvan T. Warrington Visiting Lectureship in Ethics and Leadership featuring Sherron Watkins. Sherron was a Vice President at Enron. The Enron scandal\, which came to light in late 2001\, involved one of the largest corporate accounting frauds in U.S. history. Enron\, an energy trading and utility company\, used complex and misleading accounting practices\, such as “mark-to-market” accounting and the use of “special purpose entities” (SPEs)\, to hide billions of dollars in debt and inflate its revenues. Sherron was a key whistleblower in uncovering this scandal. Join us to learn from her about ethics\, courage\, and leadership! Register to join us on Wednesday\, October 22nd from 5-6pm today!

SUMMARY:The Ethics of AI\, Information Systems\, and Libraries
DESCRIPTION:Hosted by MSU Libraries\, this panel convenes scholars and practitioners to explore how artificial intelligence is transforming copyright\, creativity\, and the circulation of knowledge. Copyright as we have known it is already under strain; AI systems are reshaping authorship\, publishing\, and business models faster than policy or ethics can catch up. Rather than only asking what is being disrupted\, the panel will focus on what we are building right now: the sociotechnical systems\, governance models\, and creative practices that will define the next era of scholarship and art. Drawing on expertise in digital literacies\, AI governance\, information economics\, and library stewardship\, the discussion will highlight both the risks of ad-hoc adaptation and the opportunities to shape more equitable\, sustainable\, and generative systems for creators\, publishers\, and the public. Join us for this exciting conversation on Wednesday\, February 18th from 9:30am-11am. \nModerated by Kay Firth-Butterfield\, CEO of Good Tech Advisory and the inaugural Head of AI and Machine Learning at the World Economic Forum. \nPanelists: Susan Kendall (Library) Johannis in the Quello Center\, Denelle (the role of the creator)\, Marcio Olivero (AI in Education)\, Justin Simard (legality perspective).
