SUMMARY:Global Business Club of Mid-Michigan: TikTok\, WeChat & More: Talking Tech and IP in the U.S. & China
DESCRIPTION:The U.S. and China compete for global dominance in the areas of tech and innovation; however\, in an era of global firms and global citizens they must also learn to cooperate. The U.S. espouses free speech while the Trump administration pushed for banning social media platforms like TikTok and WeChat. China wants to be taken seriously as a global player but is often seen as disregarding global standards and norms. How can these two superpowers find common ground? This program is organized as part of our China & The World program series\, organized in conjunction with MSU Asian Studies Center and MSU Office of China Programs. \nThe Global Business Club of Mid-Michigan focuses on global issues of interest to the mid-Michigan business community. The monthly GB Club luncheons provide outstanding speakers and relaxed networking opportunities. With extensive international experience\, the speakers wrap personal insights around a practical and up-to-the-minute approach to conducting international trade. \nPanel Speakers:\n\nFarok J. Contractor\, Ph.D.\, President-Elect AIB (Academy of International Business)\,\nDistinguished Professor\, Management & Global Business\, Rutgers Business School\nJean Schtokal\, International Business & Export Controls Attorney\, Foster\, Swift\,\nCollins & Smith PC\n(Alvin) Deng Jun\, Head of IP\, China\, Novozymes (China) Investment Co. Ltd\n\nModerator\n\nXinyu Wu\, Ph.D.\, Co-Director of the Office of China Programs\, Michigan State University

SUMMARY:Business And Bagels: Putting A Business Case For Diversity Into Action
DESCRIPTION:How can organizations become more diverse\, equitable and inclusive in ways that help drive strategic goals\, enhance performance\, and sustain structural and cultural change in the business environment? \nAs the business environment becomes increasingly complex and uncertain\, approaches to diversity\, equity\, and belonging must respond while driving internal change. Quinetta Roberson\, Ph.D.\, uses insight from research and practice to compare current approaches and best practices while highlighting what works\, what does not\, and more importantly\, why. \nBusiness and Bagels participants will learn how to derive greater value from diversity investments and evidence-based solutions aimed at creating more inclusive environments and improving business success. \nSession Presenter\nFebruary’s Business and Bagels is delighted to host Quinetta Roberson\, Ph.D.\, newly appointed John A. Hannah Distinguished Professor in the Broad College of Business\, Department of Management and the Department of Psychology in the College of Social Science. With degrees in organizational behavior and finance\, Roberson focuses her attention on the business case for diversity and organizational justice while connecting with business and labor relations professionals.\n\nRoberson comes to Spartan nation from Villanova University as the Fred J. Springer Endowed Chair in Business Leadership and Professor in the Department of Management and Operations at The Villanova School of Business. She serves as an elected member of the Academy of Management’s Executive Committee\, where she was inducted as president in August 2020. Her work furthers MSU’s current No. 1 ranking in industrial organization psychology and No. 1 ranking in management research productivity in top academic journals.
