How should the local dominant coffee brand in India respond to the market incursion from the global leader Starbucks? That was the strategic question put before Executive MBA students during the program’s annual Case Competition. Designed as a capstone-style course, students from the EMBA Class of 2015 assessed the market situation, developed data-driven strategies and presented recommendations to a panel of Broad College faculty and Executive MBA alumni. Twenty-four teams competed during the daylong session, with six teams emerging from the first round competition, three each from the two campuses, East Lansing and Troy.
The final round featured compelling presentations from all the finalists, but in the end, one team was left standing: Team #20 from the Lansing cohort. Congratulations Mona Deliwala, Jim Hunsanger, Matt Sowash, Pankaj Vij, and Tom Yaroch.
The Case Competition Winner’s Cup will reside in the Executive MBA office in East Lansing for the next 12 months along with the winner’s plaque listing all the competition winners from past years. There will be a plaque will be displayed at both campus locations. The Class of 2016 teams will take their shot at the competition in January 2016.
