Katie Blok and Ranee Wiley

Two Michigan State University Broad College of Business accounting graduate students will be a part of the prestigious Postgraduate Technical Assistant Program following graduation in May. Katie Blok (BA ’14, MS ’15) will be with the Government Accounting Standards Board (GASB) and Ranee Wiley (BA ’14, MS ’15) will have a position with the Financial Accounting Standards Board (FASB).

To be considered for the one-year program, students must be nominated by faculty, have an outstanding academic record, and excellent communication skills. The students will have the opportunity to become highly involved with the accounting standards setting process. Although they do not yet know the specific projects they will be working on, Blok has expressed interest in asset retirement obligations and post implementation review, and Wiley is interested in the accounting for financial instruments project and hedge accounting.

The students have deferred permanent employment—Blok with Grant Thornton in Chicago, and Wiley with EY in Grand Rapids—to take these positions, which will begin in July.
