AIB-CIBER Doctoral Academy prepares early-career academics for careers in international business

Tuesday, January 7, 2025

The AIB-CIBER Doctoral Academy offers an unparalleled opportunity for doctoral students to gain the global perspective and professional development needed to excel as international business scholars. The 18-month program is held virtually, training doctoral students from all around the world. Through advanced training modules, mentorship from leading scholars and collaboration with peers, participants refine their research capabilities, teaching expertise and cross-cultural communication skills. This comprehensive preparation ensures that these scholars are well positioned to contribute meaningfully to international business education and research.

The AIB-CIBER Doctoral Academy is guided by the Academy of International Business, with its Secretariat hosted at Michigan State University. This collaboration benefits from MSU’s strong infrastructure, global academic reputation and commitment to advancing international business education. MSU’s alignment with the academy’s mission ensures that students receive the support they need to succeed in a globally connected academic environment.

Junyu Sun is a current Ph.D. student participating in the program through MSU. “One aspect that stood out to me was the program’s emphasis on not just academic excellence but also professional development,” Sun said. “The practical insights into publishing, teaching and building a research agenda have been invaluable. It’s rare to find a program that blends these elements so seamlessly, and I am incredibly grateful for the experience.

“For anyone considering this program, I would highly recommend it — it’s a unique opportunity to grow academically, professionally and personally while building lasting connections in the field of international business.”

By combining resources from the Academy of International Business, leading CIBERs, and the Leeds University Business School, the program delivers specialized Ph.D. level training, access to world-class faculty and the chance to build an international scholarly network. Students benefit from a comprehensive curriculum, professional workshops and participation in the premier global conference for international business academics.

“What truly excited me was the opportunity to learn directly from renowned faculty members specializing in international business and international marketing. The program goes beyond academic learning by fostering opportunities to build meaningful connections with both faculty and peers in the international business community.”

This transformative initiative nurtures future international business academics. By fostering cross-cultural collaboration and providing specialized training, the AIB-CIBER Doctoral Academy’s impact extends beyond individual careers — strengthening international business education.

“What truly excited me was the opportunity to learn directly from renowned faculty members specializing in international business and international marketing,” Sun said. “The program goes beyond academic learning by fostering opportunities to build meaningful connections with both faculty and peers in the international business community.”
