In U.S. News & World Report’s 2016 Best Online Graduate Business Programs (Excluding MBA) ranking, released January 12, the Broad College’s MS in Management, Strategy, and Leadership (MSMSL) ranked No. 26 overall and No. 17 among public universities. This was up 39 places from the 2015 ranking, in which the MSMSL ranked No. 65.

2016 Winner's Circle - Master's Program With Emphasis on Leadership / Organizational Development - Leadership ExcellenceThe ranking comes on the heels of the MSMSL program being selected as a 2016 winner in the Leadership Excellence Awards, which recognize top leadership development programs, in the category of “Master’s Program with Emphasis on Leadership / Organizational Development.”

These acknowledgements come very early in the fully online graduate program’s history; its first students enrolled in January 2014 and its first graduates walked in Michigan State University’s May 2015 commencement.

“The massive upward move in the rankings and the award recognition testify to the quality the program maintains,” said Glenn Omura, associate dean for MBA and professional master’s programs. “Quality was the number one priority when the program started, and quality continues to be our priority as we enjoy the excitement and growth in enrollment.”

The MS in Management, Strategy, and Leadership has grown from 31 students in the first class to 340 students currently enrolled.

The U.S. News ranking methodology gauged the use of best practices in student engagement, faculty credentials and training, and student services and technology. It also incorporated measures of peer reputation and admissions selectivity.
