Pavan Patel, MBA ’26
As we begin our second semester in the MBA program at the Broad College of Business, it feels surreal to reflect on how much we’ve experienced in just a few months. What began in late August with new faces, unfamiliar surroundings, and a whirlwind of introductions has quickly transformed into a shared journey filled with laughter, learning, and endless growth.
For many of us, including myself, last semester was a leap into the unknown. Coming from an engineering background, I had to adapt to thinking and communicating in a business context. This was no small feat, but Broad’s collaborative environment made it possible. One of the most fascinating aspects was the way our cohort was intentionally divided into diverse teams, with new team dynamics every semester. Working with classmates from different backgrounds has not only expanded my perspectives but also taught me the value of diversity in decision-making.
The professors at Broad each have their own teaching style—some spark deep discussions, while others challenge us to solve problems practically. This variety helped me develop multiple ways of thinking, and as someone passionate about finance and supply chain management, I found myself excited to apply classroom concepts to real-world scenarios. These lessons gave me a sense of empowerment, knowing that the tools we’re learning here can create tangible impact in any organization.
If there’s one thing that stands out about our time here, it’s the camaraderie. A day before exams, you’d find us sitting together, clearing each other’s doubts and sharing last-minute insights. Those late-night study sessions weren’t just about academics; they were about lifting each other up.
And then there are the lighter moments—the time I won “The Beauty Contest” in marketing class will always be a fun memory. It’s moments like these that make the Broad experience more than just about academics.
Broad knows how to celebrate, and we experienced it firsthand. Diwali, the biggest festival for many of us from India, was a celebration to remember. Thanks to the Broad Multicultural Club, we shared stories of our traditions, enjoyed delicious Indian food, and danced like there was no tomorrow. It was heartwarming to feel so connected to home while being thousands of miles away.
The Fall Ball organized by MBAA was another highlight. Dressed to the nines, we dined, danced, and bonded as a cohort. It was a night of elegance and pure fun—something completely new for me and a memory I’ll cherish forever.
Adjusting to a new country and culture wasn’t always easy. From career events to casual conversations, navigating the U.S. business environment felt intimidating at first. But the support from my classmates and seniors made all the difference. Whether it was sharing tips for interviews or simply offering a word of encouragement, their generosity and inclusivity reminded me that we’re in this together.
It’s incredible how fast the first semester flew by—almost as fast as stock prices in an efficient market! What started as a collection of strangers has now turned into a close-knit family. As we wrap up our first semester, some of us are celebrating internship offers, while others are still in the process. Regardless of where we are, there’s a shared determination to succeed—a belief that Spartans Will.
Broad isn’t just a business school; it’s a community where we grow together, celebrate together, and face challenges together. The first semester was a whirlwind, but it was also a foundation for something much greater. I can’t wait to see what the future holds for all of us.
