At the recent Western Finance Association meetings in Santa Fe, New Mexico, A.J. Pasant Endowed Professor of Finance Charles J. Hadlock was recognized with the BlackRock/Michael Brennan award for the best paper published in the Review of Financial Studies (RFS) in 2010. The RFS is sponsored by the Society of Financial Studies and is widely considered to be one of the top three academic research journals in the field of finance.

Hadlock won the award for his paper entitled, “New Evidence on Measuring Financial Constraints: Moving Beyond the KZ Index,” which was published in the May 2010 issue. This work was co-authored with Joshua R. Pierce, a 2007 graduate from MSU’s doctoral program in finance.

In addition to his professorship, Hadlock serves as the director of the doctoral program in finance. He received his Ph.D. from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 1994 and has published in several other leading journals in finance and economics including the Journal of Finance, the Journal of Business, the Rand Journal of Economics, the Journal of Law and Economics and the Journal of Accounting and Economics.
