For the first time, the Institute of Management Accountants Student Chapter (IMASC) has been honored with the Silver Award of Excellence from the Institute Management of Accountants. The IMASC received the award for finding new ways to provide Broad College of Business students with professional financial management skills and opportunities.
IMASC, a registered Michigan State University student organization sponsored by the Lansing/Jackson IMA chapter, provides students with interactive opportunities to build a professional skill set in the field of management accounting and financial management, as well as promoting CMA certification.
“The IMA annually awards student chapters that have performed well promoting IMA’s mission/vision and providing a variety of activities and services to their student members. The award represents our comprehensive performance over the year in providing MSU students with opportunities to develop skills in the field of management accounting and promoting CMA certification,” said Rebecca Wang (MS Accounting ’18).
To secure this award, the IMASC submitted three types of reports: administrative reports (chapter profile, training of officers, scholarship/competition report), planning and evaluation reports (executive summary and treasurer’s report), and program and activities reports (meetings, tours, promotional events, newsletters).
In the last year alone, IMASC hosted guest speakers from General Motors and Stryker, and took a tour of Rock Ventures’ Detroit office. The group gave back to meaningful causes, which included coordinating a floor hockey tournament benefiting the Special Olympics.
This past year (2017) was IMASC’s first time applying for global recognition and the first time the organization was recognized with the silver award. The organization has implemented plans for 2018 to bring home the gold award, which include more collaboration with the Lansing/ Jackson chapter and other Broad student organizations.
