All members of the Eli Broad College of Business community are invited to celebrate the life of former Eli Broad College of Business Dean James B. Henry at 2 p.m. Thursday, May 31 at the James B. Henry Center for Executive Development in Lansing.
Henry, who passed away Dec. 28, 2017, at the age of 79, led the college during a period of significant growth for the Broad College in the mid-to-late 1990s.
James B. Henry served as dean of the Eli Broad College of Business from 1994 to 2000
Henry served as dean from 1994 to 2000, overseeing the groundbreaking of the Henry Center that bears his name, the Lear Corporation Career Services Center, and the William C. Gast Business Library. He retired from the college in 2010 as dean emeritus and full professor.
By the end of 2000, Henry had traveled more than 350,000 miles and raised more than $80 million to support the growth of the Broad College.
While at MSU, Henry developed close ties with both domestic and international corporations. He also promoted close relationships with the school’s tens of thousands of alumni worldwide and attracted outside resources to promote continuous improvement for both the school and the university.
Henry’s tenure also saw the creation of a Weekend MBA Program (now known as the Executive MBA Program); a totally restructured Full-Time MBA curriculum; increased GMAT scores of incoming MBA students; establishment of an evening undergraduate degree program; and new master’s degree programs in engineering management, accounting, hospitality business, and marketing technology.
Henry is survived by his wife of 44 years, Elizabeth B. Henry, and his son James M. Henry II. His family asks those wishing to honor his memory to consider memorial donations to the American Diabetes Association or a donation to the Henry Center.
