The MSU MBA Association hosted the 2nd Annual MBA Mustache Competition benefitting CureSearch ( from February 4th – March 4th this year. By donating $15 supporters were able to nominate faculty, staff, and students to grow a mustache. These nominees could choose to participate by growing a mustache or buyout of the obligation. CureSearch is a charity dedicated to the eradication of childhood cancer through funding the critical research necessary to develop new and better cures. By building on the success of the inaugural competition this year’s event grew in visibility, participation and funds generated.

As usual, my classmates did not disappoint. More than 80 individuals were nominated during the 2010 competition and over two thousand dollars was raised, more than double the participation and funds generated last year. With nearly half of the field able to weather the storm and complete the four week event the competition for awards was strong. Ultimately the awards for fullness, peach-fuzz, and style were taken home by Tim Richardson, Adam Briggs, and Anthony Khedaywi; a sweep of the awards by the class of 2010.

While this fundraiser is not short on entertainment value, it truly embodies the willingness of the Broad community to support an excellent cause. Many thanks are due to all of the supporters and participants that helped make this year a roaring success.

And for those who weren’t able to participate as either a mustache grower or a mustache supporter, there is always next year. Keep a lookout next spring for the 3rd Annual Mustache Competition; it is not something to be missed.
