Jalen Garrett (BA Finance ’14) decided to study finance because of his desire to help communities in distress.
“The study of finance has provided me a unique and intricate perspective about the world around me,” Garrett said. “I hope to someday use my education to inspire, uplift, and revitalize our impoverished communities.”
When it comes to an inspiring environment in which to study finance, Garrett says the Broad College of Business is in a league of its own.
“Broad is a school unlike any other. The social climate and pure hunger that our students possess is infectious. When I walk into the Broad College every day, I feel the desire to be great.”
For two years, Garrett was part of the National Association of Black Accountants, an organization that helped him develop his networking skills. Garrett says that he also has benefited immensely from the interviewing experience he gained through his involvement with Multicultural Business Programs.
“Without Multicultural Business Programs, I would not be where I am today,” he said.
Following graduation, Garrett plans to work with the Wealth Management Group at Plante Moran Financial Advisors. After approximately two years of work, he will pursue his MBA and specialize in entrepreneurship.
As Garrett pursues his dreams of business creation, he takes with him the preparation he’s gained at Broad.
“The Broad College has given me access to elite faculty members who possess valuable connections and insight; environments conducive to student engagement and collaboration; and a diverse curriculum that allows me to expand my intellectual capacity,” Garrett said.
