Donald Bryant Jr. is the founder and CEO of Alden Group (Alden Oils), starting in 2007 and having a goal of providing healthy cooking oils to the world, it is currently the largest minority-owned food-grade oil processing company in the United States. With offices in Michigan and South Dakota, the company serves a variety of industries and customers including Frito-Lay, Quaker, Sysco, Walmart, Amazon, and Team Foods (Colombia and Chile) and has grown to be a major supplier of Organic and Non-GMO food-grade oils around the world. Being a graduate from Michigan State University, he received a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering and an MBA from the Broad School of Management as well as a Doctorate of Ministry degree from Luther Seminary. Bryant currently continues his time as the CEO of Alden Oils while spending time with his wife, Camille and his three kids, Kennedi, Isaiah, and Payton.

Starting her career as a proud DJ on WDBM The Impact 89FM and graduating from Michigan State University in 2007 with a bachelors in the College of Communication Arts and Sciences, Kristen Lueck has had a lifelong passion for media and audio creation. Currently working as the VP, Director of Business Development and Partnerships at Man Made Music, she works towards and builds opportunities to create iconic music and sound for entertainment properties and Fortune 500 brands. Alongside this venture, over the past eight years, she has worked on audio identities, network rebrands and immersive experiences for big-name clients such as AT&T, American Express, Nissan, NPR, IMAX, Disney, and Southwest Airlines. Her expertise has been showcased on TEDx and SXSW stages and numerous conference workshops while also working on and supporting programs that explore how music and sound can improve human health and wellness in hospital and patient care settings. Before her time at Man Made Music, her entertainment background saw her as Music Assistant to Paul Shaffer at The Late Show with David Letterman as well as programming and marketing for film festivals in East Lansing, Michigan and Austin, Texas. Lueck now spends her time in New York City, continuing her career and building on her past experiences.

Starting his extensive career by graduating from Michigan State University in 1995, Matt Growney serves on the Board of the Center for Venture Capital, Private Equity, and Entrepreneurial Finance at the Broad School of Business, as well as attending the New England School of Law | Boston (JD ‘00). Alongside this, Growney consults with dozens of clients within the Fashion, Beauty/Wellness, Food, and Home/Hospitality categories. He has designed exclusive products and consumer experiences (installations, presentations, charity events, concerts, Pop-ups) for such events including the NBA Draft, Art Basel, CES, ComplexCon, KidzCon, Paris Fashion Week, NY Fashion Week, and Formula One. From 1998-2006, Matthew was Co-founder and Managing Director of Motorola Ventures (MV), the corporate venture capital arm of Motorola, Inc. outside of Chicago, IL. In 2008, he departed Motorola to create Isabella Products, one of the industry’s first mobile Internet companies focused on creating digital learning solutions and currently serves as Senior Advisor and Head of Special Projects to PUMA on Technology, Culture, and Fashion. Matthew spends his time living outside of Boston with his wife, Shelley, and their three children, recently picking up the activity of half and full marathon running.

With over 13 years of experience in both mergers and acquisitions (M&A) and business operations, Andrew Dickow leads the Food and Beverage (F&B) practice for GCG, having significant experience working with consumer packaged goods, distribution, contract manufacturing, and ingredient companies amongst others. Alongside this, Dickow focuses on M&A on both the sell-side and buy-side of business and has advised numerous clients through recapitalizations, leveraged buyouts, business valuations, and financial analyses. Andrew co-owns 1701 Hospitality, Inc. with his brother, owning and operating four restaurants in downtown Detroit and Birmingham, Michigan, which employs nearly 200 people. Additionally, Andrew is a minority shareholder and Board Member of Pop Daddy Popcorn, a Michigan based ready-to-eat popcorn company as well as DROUGHT Juice, a Michigan based cold-pressed juice company. Most recently, he worked for a middle-market investment bank advising privately-held businesses as well as holding various financial management roles at General Mills, Inc., where he focused on M&A, financial forecasting, planning and analysis, marketing and supply chain management. Andrew has a passion for investing in and advising/mentoring other early-stage food & beverage companies, such as 86 Repairs, an automated restaurant equipment repair company based in Chicago.

Growing up in southeast Michigan and acquiring a bachelor degree from Eli Broad College of Business in 2004, Jeffrey Epstein is an accomplished attorney, entrepreneur, and investor. Later going on to earn his J.D. from Chicago-Kent School of Law in 2007, he created and sold his first online business allowing him to successfully pay back his student loans in full and leading the way for his next venture, ZFERRAL, INC dba Ambassador Software (“Ambassador”) which at the time of its creation in 2010, became a leading referral marketing platform used by some of the world’s most recognizable brands.

Since then Epstein grew Ambassador to hold 45 full-time employees until it was acquired by West Corporation in late 2018, but his extensive expertise doesn’t end there. Showcasing his entrepreneurial spirit, he has attended and participated in Techstars (NYC 2011), raising several million dollars along the way in VC funding. Although he has made mistakes in his time, Epstein now focuses on capitalizing and learning from them by consulting, investing and helping other entrepreneurs learn and grow from the mistakes and troubles he has experienced throughout his career.

Josh is the founder of the Detroit-based social streetwear line, York Project. Each item purchased provides living essentials to the homeless of Detroit. York Project launched a cut + sew operation and line in Summer 2018 and now employs women from Detroit homeless shelters as part of its production team. Josh also launched a B2B private label garment manufacturing company called Soft Goods Detroit, whose client list includes Shinola, TJ Maxx Canada, The PGA, Chips Ahoy, Speedo, Funyuns, Planters Peanuts, Vaynermedia, among others.

Josh was a former buyer at Abercrombie & Fitch and also worked for The Boeing Company. He graduated from Michigan State University with a degree in Supply Chain Management and a minor in German. Josh was honored as a TEDx speaker in 2017. His company, York Project, also participated in the inaugural 2016 cohort of Conquer Accelerator program.

Amanda is an award-winning writer and entrepreneur. She loves to drive change through community. As Co-founder of Bamboo, she builds collaborative workspaces that unite and empower diverse founders and creatives. She is a partner and board member of Venture Catalysts, a 501c3 non-profit leading large scale events. She has a decade of operations and marketing experience but has had the most fun bootstrapping Bamboo from a $5,000 loan to 500+ members and 25,000 sq ft of community space.

Jen has served as Executive Director of the Detroit Food Academy for five years. She holds a Bachelor of Arts in Geography from Colgate University and a Master’s in Business Administration from Michigan State University, where she was a Michigan Non-Profit Association Scholar. In 2010, she received a Thomas J. Watson Fellowship to explore the social, economic, and environmental impact of chocolate production on small scale cacao farming communities around the world. Inspired to link young people with farmers close to home, she completed two terms with national service FoodCorps and local organization Food System Economic Partnership (FSEP), connecting cafeterias and classrooms in high needs school districts with local food from Michigan farmers and school gardens. Seeing the need to engage students beyond the school year, Jen co-founded the Detroit Food Academy, bringing food, business, and learning together. As Executive Director, Jen supports our young people and the organization in visioning, strategic planning, partnership expansion, fund development, operations, food systems education, culture-building, program facilitation, and fun captain-ing.

Kavita is an entrepreneur, digital health maven, patient health advocate, investor and speaker with a mission to connect people to targeted health innovations, enabling them to lead healthier lives.

She is the co-founder and CEO of Match Health, a digital health platform that brings greater awareness and accessibility to transformative health innovations. Match Health has developed and maintains a vast video library that reviews various medical conditions and different innovations that have been developed to treat them.

Prior to starting Match Health, Kavita served as a Marketing Director for two medical device startups, Biomerix Corporation and FoxHollow Technologies. In these roles, Kavita drove the introduction of health innovations targeting tissue repair and peripheral arterial disease.

Kavita also has significant experience, working as a consultant to both startups as well as larger organizations providing strategy and go-to-market expertise introducing novel medical device technologies to the market in the fields of cardiovascular health, orthopedics, general surgery, and women’s health.

Kavita grew up in Rochester Hills, MI and graduated from Michigan State University in 1999 with a bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management (Eli Broad College of Business) and earned her MBA from the University of Michigan (Ross School of Business) in 2004. Kavita lives in the Boston area with her husband Omari and their twin boys.

Anurag is an experienced global technology and management consultant with a talent for finding innovative solutions to complex business problems and building and growing businesses. He has extensive experience working with and for companies that range in size from the Global 500 to pre-investment startups. Anurag is a Charter Member and former President of TIE Austin, former CEO Chair for the Austin chapter of Vistage, an exclusive community of 14,500 global business leaders, where he guides and mentors a business group of 10+ CEOs. As a trained Chair, Anurag is dedicated to helping businesses uncover unique opportunities, maximize profits and influence others.

As a serial entrepreneur, Anurag has previously raised $14M in Venture funding at Mediaprise where he was Founder and CEO. Most recently, Anurag Co-founded iTexico, a leader in Nearshore software services. Within nine years, he has grown iTexico into a multi-million dollar company employing over 300 individuals and maintaining over 200 clients in the U.S., Canada, and Mexico. Anurag holds an MBA from Michigan State University’s Broad School of Business, MS in Computer Engineering from Wayne State University and a BS in Electrical Engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Delhi.

A native of Williamston, Michigan, Mike Miller is a lifelong Spartan. After graduating from MSU with degrees in physics and philosophy, his undergraduate research at the Cyclotron opened the door for a PhD in Particle Physics from Yale and faculty positions at MIT and UW. Along the way he developed a taste for capitalism, co-founding the Y Combinator-backed company, Cloudant, which helped create the noSQL and Database-aaS market before being acquired by IBM in 2014. Through a strange twist of fate, Miller then co-founded Silicon Valley’s most active seed-stage venture capital firm with Joe Montana and Michael Ma. Since 2015 the partners have invested in over 250 companies with a combined valuation of nearly $10B, putting them at the epicenter of the Bay Area’s tech scene. Outside of work, Mike is the proud father of two sets of young twins with his wife Laura, and they enjoy hiking, sailing, skiing and climbing from their Pacific NW home base.

Sheela has more than 20 years of experience in building and implementing educational technology solutions in K-12 classrooms. At CueThink, Sheela and her team have successfully taken the vision of a peer platform for math problem solving and built and deployed a scalable application to foster critical thinking and collaboration skills. As Founder and CEO, Sheela has been instrumental in securing $3M from the National Science Foundation, NewSchools Venture Fund, MassVentures, and angel investors. She has been successful in fostering partnerships with leading Math groups and selling to school districts across the country. Prior to CueThink, Sheela was Project Director at Pearson Education, focusing on technologically innovative assessment items based on Common Core State Standards. Before that, Sheela was Director of Technology at CAST, where she spearheaded numerous technical products including CAST eReader and Thinking Reader. She has been a member of various consortiums such as Web Access Initiative (WAI), National Instructional Materials Accessibility Standard (NIMAS) and Open eBook Forum. Sheela has also been a podcaster for the Stanford Business School’s Center for Social Innovation.

Hospitality Business: Les Gourmets

The premier annual event in The School of Hospitality Business is Les Gourmets. Founded as a student organization in 1951, students in Les Gourmets produced their first dinner in 1955. Starting as a simple buffet and dinner dance, the event has since evolved into a formal world-class reception and dinner showcasing the talents of hundreds of student volunteers and all they have learned from their professors and work experiences. With the guidance of faculty members and guest chefs, the students work in all areas – management, sales, marketing, purchasing, finance, culinary management, bartending, and serving – creating a night to remember each spring for hundreds of proud parents, alumni, and faculty.
