Former Michigan State University men’s track and field student-athlete Kevin Jackson received the 2016 MSU Joey M. Spano Varsity S Club Graduate Endowed Fellowship. The endowment was established by the MSU Varsity S Club, a group honoring varsity athlete alumni, to provide scholarships to athletes seeking an advanced degree at MSU.
The endowment supports talented former student-athletes who are MSU Varsity Alumni S Club members in good standing, have completed their undergraduate studies with at least a 3.1 GPA, and have demonstrated outstanding character and exceptional leadership through their university and community involvement. Jackson will be honored at the Varsity S Club Celebration Weekend Banquet in September as the first MSU Track and Field student-athlete to earn the fellowship.
Full-Time MBA scholar Kevin Jackson will reach new heights as he completes his third degree from Michigan State University
Jackson, a Full-Time MBA student, completed his athletic eligibility in 2013 as a three-time letter winner. He was a two-time NCAA East preliminary-round qualifier in the high jump during his time as a Spartan. A Detroit native, Jackson earned his bachelor of science degree in public administration and policy in 2013 and then earned his juris doctor from the MSU College of Law in May 2016, focusing on corporate law and compliance. He is now pursuing his MBA in marketing and human resources at the Broad College of Business, with an expected graduation date of December 2018.
During his time as a Spartan student-athlete, Jackson represented MSU on the Big Ten Student-Athlete Advisory Council (SAAC) and was a 2011 NCAA Leadership Forum participant. In 2013, Jackson received the MSU Dr. James Feurig Achievement and Service Award and the Big Ten Post-Graduate Academic Scholarship & Award. A two-time Academic All-Big Ten selection, he was also a Big Ten Distinguished Scholar. Jackson earned the 2013 MSU Multicultural Award, presented to a student-athlete who promotes inclusion, exhibits strong leadership, and is active in community service and diversity programming.
In his years at MSU, Jackson has taken part in the MSU Pen Pal program, where he maintained written relationships with elementary school students in the greater Lansing area, and has been actively involved with the Detroit Public Schools’ Black Lives Matter educational program. He served on The State News Board of Directors, making decisions to advance the best interest of MSU’s regional news organization. He has also served as a junior legal consultant for Governor Rick Snyder’s small business initiative and worked at Quantum Ventures, where he assisted in evaluations and procurement in client services.
