Broad Champions must have completed at least one semester as a Broad admitted student before applying.

Expectations

Broad Champions are named for a 9-month term from August through the following April. The Champion team will work varying hours depending on the time of year. Based on MSU event schedules, the fall semester will generally be the busiest. Broad Champions will participate in the following:

  • 2-4 Broad College events or speaking engagements. (Examples: Travel to Florida to attend MSU’s Winter University where Broad Champions would share their college experience with potential donors.)
  • Attend a half-day Broad Champion Orientation near the beginning of the semester; and
  • Write a student point-of-view article during the school year for Broad College’s Alumni Newsletter.

As representatives of Broad College and Michigan State University, Broad Champions are expected to abide by the terms outlined in this description as well as general university rules and regulations governing student conduct and discipline outlined in the Spartan Life Student Handbook.

The Broad Champion scholarship may affect a student’s financial aid. Before accepting their appointment as a Broad Champion, students should contact the MSU Office of Financial Aid at 517-353-5940 or finaid@msu.edu to determine this, as Broad College is not responsible for determining how this scholarship will affect each student’s financial aid.
