The Broad College of Business will honor three exceptional alumni and its first-ever corporate partner award recipient during the newly branded Celebrate Broad Awards, an evening dedicated to recognizing leaders whose careers, service and engagement continue to strengthen the Broad community.

This year’s honorees include:

  • Young Alumni Award: Michelle Winterfield and Dan Couvreur
  • Outstanding Alumni Achievement Award: Priya Balasubramaniam
  • Inaugural Corporate Partner Award: Deloitte

The awards ceremony will take place Apr.16 from 6–8 p.m. at Michigan State University Federal Credit Union, 311 Abbot Rd., East Lansing.

“Our honorees represent the very best of Broad—leaders who make a meaningful impact in their professions while staying connected to the college and its students,” said Ashley Durham, director of alumni engagement at Broad. “Honoring these alumni and corporate partners reinforces the importance of lifelong engagement and the role our graduates play in supporting and shaping the Broad community.”

Michelle Winterfield (B.A. Finance ’17) and Dan Couvreur (B.A. Finance ’17) are being recognized for their entrepreneurial leadership and fast-growing fintech company, Tandem, a finance app that helps modern households manage and grow wealth together.

As co-founders, the pair built Tandem to promote equitable financial involvement and transparency between partners. Since launching in 2023, the platform has helped users manage more than $200 million. In 2025, Tandem was acquired by Reseda Group, a wholly owned credit union service organization of Michigan State University Federal Credit Union. Winterfield now serves as vice president of marketing and Couvreur as vice president of product.

Prior to founding Tandem, Winterfield worked in private equity and has built a personal finance community of more than 700,000 followers. She serves on the Forbes Advisor Banking Advisory Board and the Broad College’s Financial Markets Institute Board and was named to Crain’s Detroit 40 Under 40.

Couvreur previously held leadership roles in fintech and mortgage partnerships and began his career in principal investing at Citigroup.

“Michelle and Dan were students in the Financial Markets Institute when I was its director,” said Helen Dashney, fixed-term faculty in the Department of Finance. “I am so proud of them for using their skills to become entrepreneurs, pushing through the many challenges of starting and scaling a business. To sell their firm to MSUFCU’s Reseda Group, keeping Tandem in the MSU family, is an amazing full-circle moment for them.”

Outstanding Alumni Achievement Award: Priya Balasubramaniam

Priya Balasubramaniam (MBA ’01)

Priya Balasubramaniam (MBA ’01) is the recipient of the Outstanding Alumni Achievement Award for her global leadership in operations and supply chain management at Apple, where she serves as vice president of product operations. In this role, she oversees the supply chain, manufacturing, and quality assurance of Apple products and core technology components, shaping their accessibility and innovation worldwide.

Balasubramaniam’s engagement with the Broad community extends far beyond her professional achievements. Inspired by her MBA mentorship and belief that education is a multiplying force, she pledged a transformative gift to establish the Dashney Women’s Leadership Accelerator, equipping Broad students with mentoring, coaching, workshops and experiential leadership opportunities as they enter the workforce.

Balasubramaniam’s longstanding support for the college also includes serving on the Broad Advisory Board, offering paid work experiences for students during the COVID-19 pandemic through donor-enabled awards, and speaking at college events, underscoring her commitment to investing in Broad Spartans at every stage of their career journeys.

Inaugural Corporate Partner Award: Deloitte

Broad’s corporate partners invest in the college in many ways, including offering internships, hiring graduates, mentoring students and creating meaningful career and leadership development opportunities.

The Broad College is proud to present the first Corporate Partner Award to Deloitte. A special acknowledgment is extended to Lou Barkman (B.A. Accounting, M.S. Accounting ’02) for his leadership in establishing and strengthening the partnership between Deloitte and the Broad College.

“Deloitte’s selection as the inaugural recipient of the 2025–26 Broad College Corporate Partner Award is a testament to the firm’s exceptional engagement and impact—and Lou Barkman has been central to that success,” said Amy Moon, associate director of corporate and foundation relations. “His leadership, commitment to our students, and dedication to strengthening the Deloitte–MSU partnership have elevated this collaboration in meaningful ways. We are grateful for Lou’s steadfast support and proud to honor him and Deloitte with this well-deserved recognition.”
