Alumni Network at Tesla Motors
About 60 Spartan alumni in the San Francisco Bay area were hosted at Tesla Motors on November 7 for an exclusive small group networking reception and behind-the-scenes facility tour, complete with a green-and-white car for décor. The event featured presentations by Dave Closs, chair of the Department of Supply Chain Management and the John H. McConnell Endowed Chair in Business Administration; J.J. Luranc (BA ’97 Materials and Logistics Management, MS ’09 Logistics), manager of Tesla Global Logistics; and other Tesla executives. Thanks to the Bay Area Broad College Alumni Executives group and the MSU Alumni Association, who organized the event in cooperation with the Broad College and MSU’s College of Engineering.

Midland Research Institute to Study Value Chain
The MSU Board of Trustees recently approved plans to open the Midland Research Institute for Value Chain Creation in Midland, Michigan. The institute’s research will center on management and value chain creation. Broad faculty and other researchers at the institute will collaborate with graduate and undergraduate students, postdoctoral researchers, and others to improve every type of private and public value chain. Weekend MBA Ranks 2nd in U.S. for Career Progress, Says Financial Times
Financial Times recently released its annual ranking of executive MBA programs for 2013. The Weekend MBA program was ranked 34th among U.S. programs and 89th worldwide. Graduates move forward considerably in their careers, Financial Times found—their career progress after completing the degree ranked 2nd among U.S. programs and 15th in the world. Residential Business Program Combines Service and Networking
The Lansing area is cleaner and more festive thanks to the Residential Business Program (RBP). On November 1, RBP’s Day of Service provided a time of networking for its students and corporate partners as they worked together to decorate Old Town Lansing for the holidays, clean up the Greater Lansing Food Bank’s Garden Project space and City of Lansing parks, and assist the Asset Independence Coalition. BroadWeek Provides Experiential, Competitive Experience for MBA Students
Broad’s Full-Time MBA students came together for the BroadWeek intensive three-day experiential learning programs October 16–18. A BroadWeek experience falls in the middle of each semester of the two-year MBA program, drawing students together to learn, do practical work, and compete on a specified topic. This semester’s experiences focused on team problem-solving and entrepreneurship skills. More about BroadWeek

New MSU research finds a link between childhood arts involvement and adult patent generation and business launching. Those in the study who own businesses or patents received up to eight times more exposure to the arts as children than the general public. More about the research
