On Mar. 10, Michigan State University will celebrate its annual Give Green Day, and the Eli Broad College of Business is inviting the community to support a resource designed to meet the most basic, and most essential, needs: the Broad Care Center.
Located within the Broad business complex, the Care Center provides students, faculty and staff with access to everyday essentials such as food, hygiene items, school supplies and other necessities that can quickly become unexpected barriers to academic success. Created to support wellness and reduce financial stress, the center ensures Broad Spartans have what they need to fully engage in their academic, professional and personal experiences.
At the heart of this year’s Give Green Day effort is a simple idea: $20 funds one visit to the Broad Care Center.
That visit might mean groceries for the week, toiletries before an interview, help covering basic household needs, or supplies that allow a student to stay focused on class instead of cost.

Since opening just over a year ago, the Care Center has recorded more than 400 visits, supporting over 160 students and staff and distributing more than 4,000 essential products. This semester alone, the center has already seen 84 visits, with additional mobile orders and drop-ins continuing each week — clear evidence of both need and growing awareness.

The data also tells an important story about student transition. Sixty-eight percent of visits come from off-campus students, highlighting how the move off campus can introduce new financial pressures many students do not anticipate. Feedback from Care Center users consistently reflects this reality, noting that the shift to off-campus living often brings unexpected costs related to groceries, utilities, transportation and household essentials.
The average cost of each visit is approximately $20, reinforcing the direct impact of small gifts.
A single contribution can support a Spartan with meals, basic supplies, bills, books and other immediate needs.

For Give Green Day, the Broad College has set a fundraising goal of $8,000, representing hundreds of future Care Center visits for students across the Broad community.
Funding will help expand available supplies and introduce an inventory system to ensure the center can continue responding to demand efficiently and consistently as usage grows.
The Broad Care Center will host an on-campus event on Mar. 10 from 1–4 p.m. in the Student Engagement Center, inviting students, alumni, donors and community partners to tour the space and celebrate its impact. Activities throughout the afternoon will highlight the collective support behind the Care Center and reinforce how small acts of generosity create meaningful change.
Give Green Day is a university-wide moment that mobilizes alumni and supporters around initiatives that directly shape the MSU experience. For the Broad College, supporting the Care Center is a tangible way to invest in wellness, belonging and Spartan success.
