Runners start Road to Broad 5k event in front of MSU’s Auditorium Building on Farm Lane
While the picturesque transition from summer to autumn on Michigan State University’s campus is reason enough to take a jog down Farm Lane, on Sunday, September 18, over 40 runners began a race through campus, not just for the scenery but for a good cause as well.
The Broad College of Business Student Senate’s 8th annual Road to Broad 5k brought Michigan State students and local residents together to raise awareness and support for a great cause. “The proceeds of the race went to support the Make A Wish Foundation,” said Adam Regier (BA Supply Chain Management ’18), co-event committee director. “This foundation supports children who are battling serious illnesses and it’s a foundation the Student Senate feels very passionate about.”
The race started and ended at MSU’s Auditorium building, and was followed by an awards ceremony for the top racers in each age group. The female overall winner was Brooke Marie Prieskorn with a time of 21:37.3, and the male overall winner with a time of 18:53.5 was Dietrich Hittner, an undergraduate student in Supply Chain Management.
The event, which was sponsored Granger, Meijer and Weingartz, raised over $600 for the foundation. Looking forward, the Broad Student Senate hopes to keep growing the event so they can continue to increase their support for the Make A Wish Foundation for years to come. “The Road to Broad 5k has always benefitted Make-A-Wish Michigan,” said Kara Weingartz (BA Marketing ’17) co-event committee director. “In the future we hope to look into different fundraising opportunities to help grow the event.”
