Announcing Broad’s M.S. in Accounting & Data Analytics

Accounting is an expertise that’s woven into the fabric of every organization. And the future of business is seeing a demand for outstanding accountants eager to take on the abundance of big data. Known for having some of the top accounting programs in the nation, the Broad College of Business has a new graduate program geared toward answering this call.

The fully online Master of Science in Accounting and Data Analytics program is designed for students who want to gain an analytical skillset, regardless of their background with accounting, business or non-business degrees.

This master’s program fully prepares students for accounting careers within public accounting, corporations, government and nonprofit organizations. With flexibility and accessibility at the forefront of this program, the part-time and full-time options are intended to be the perfect fit for any Spartan. An added bonus: no GRE or GMAT is required to enroll.

“We are excited to add a fully online program open to non-accounting majors to our existing portfolio of on-campus programs,” said Chris Hogan, interim associate dean for faculty and doctoral programs, who led the creation of the M.S. in ADA. “This program, designed to provide maximum flexibility for the students, is perfect for those looking to change careers or enhance their skillsets. Students in this program will be learning from our world-class faculty.”

The M.S. in ADA consists of a set of foundational courses in accounting, information systems and data analysis, and coursework counts toward the education requirements of professional certifications such as Certified Public Accountant and Certified Management Accountant. The program equips students from diverse backgrounds with the technical accounting knowledge and data analysis skills that are in high demand in all sectors.

Program concentrations include accounting analytics, accounting for management decision making, taxation and transaction services. Meeting students wherever they may be, these concentrations are available outside the program as standalone graduate certificates. If a student chooses to enroll in the full master’s program after starting with a certificate, completed coursework will count toward the degree.

Offering both a foundation in accounting and an emphasis on data analytics, the M.S. in ADA program differs from the Department of Accounting and Information Systems’ other master’s programs. Data analytics is infused throughout the curriculum, which includes projects and experiential learning to bring real-world situations into the classroom.

Interviews with Spartan alumni and local business owners also help demonstrate the relevance of the material, bringing unique experiences and expertise to the classroom with practical insights. Through a strong alumni and community network, students will be challenged to understand textbook problems through real industry examples. Through it all, students gain skills in data analysis, data visualization, data mining, modeling, forecasting, statistics and more — preparing them to make an immediate impact in accounting.
