DWLA celebrates first graduates, welcomes new cohort of scholars

Tuesday, December 10, 2024

On Dec. 6, the Dashney Women’s Leadership Accelerator held a ceremony to celebrate the achievements of the first three graduates from Cohort 1 of the program and welcomed the nine new members of Cohort 3.

The event, held in the Minskoff Pavilion, marked a key milestone for the program as three graduating seniors — Khadija Kapuswala, supply chain management, Symone King, human resource management, and Rijul Mahajan, supply chain management — received their graduation stoles in recognition of their successful completion of the program. Mahajan will be also be the student speaker at Fall 2024 Commencement on Dec. 14.

DWLA, which officially kicked off in January 2024, is a leadership accelerator that is designed to prepare students for senior leadership and C-suite roles by offering professional development opportunities. Through workshops, guest speakers, panel discussions and networking events, DWLA scholars have been building the skills necessary to transition from campus to careers. The program’s mission is to increase the number of Broad College alumni in senior leadership positions, providing them with the tools and resources to navigate their careers effectively.

The program was made possible by the generosity of Priya Balasubramaniam (MBA ’01), whose gift helped fund the program. The program is also supported by faculty like Helen Dashney, fixed-term faculty in the Department of Finance, who has played a key role in guiding the scholars through their leadership development journey.

In addition to recognizing the accomplishments of the graduating seniors, the event also welcomed the next group of scholars, who will begin their leadership preparation in the spring semester. Eli and Edythe L. Broad Dean David Souder attended the ceremony, presented the graduation stoles to the three graduates and addressed the newest scholars. In his remarks, Souder encouraged participants to take full advantage of all that programs like DWLA provide to best prepare them for the workforce.

As DWLA looks to the future, it remains focused on its mission to help more students enter the highest levels of leadership across industries.
