Wayne Hutchison

Wayne R. Hutchison, Ph.D. is Director of External Engagement and Lifelong Learning in Executive Development Programs. His work focuses on building connections between higher education, alumni, employers, veterans, and communities through lifelong learning, professional development, and strategic partnerships. Wayne has more than a decade of leadership experience within graduate and professional education at Michigan State University, including service as Assistant Dean for MBA Programs as well as previous leadership roles in student affairs and professional admissions. His work has included organizational and program design, curriculum development, student engagement, executive and professional education, and the development of new educational models and delivery formats. A former U.S. Air Force officer, Wayne served in operational, training, leadership, and faculty roles before transitioning to higher education. He later returned to Michigan State as an Assistant Professor of Aerospace Studies and Commandant of Cadets, teaching leadership and national security strategy while preparing future Air Force officers. His academic and professional interests include lifelong learning, systems and program design, leadership development, veteran education and engagement, and the transition of military experience into higher education and professional settings. His doctoral research examined the experiences and identities of student veterans navigating college. He holds a Ph.D. in Higher, Adult, and Lifelong Education from Michigan State University, along with graduate degrees in business and public administration.  Wayne also received a bachelor's degree from Michigan State University in Political Science/Pre-Law in 1997.

Wayne enjoys spending time with his family, athletics, travel, cultural events, film, and community service work. He and his family are proud Spartans and can be found at a diverse array of activities that support and celebrate Michigan State University.
