With heavy hearts, the Executive MBA Alumni Association (EMBAaa) of Michigan State University reports the unexpected passing of Sam Elfawal (EMBA ’07), board president and long-time friend of the program, on May 2. Elfawal, 55, resided in Midland, Michigan, with his wife Tammy and two children, Ashley and Adam Elfawal, who survive him.
Following graduation from the EMBA’s Troy campus, he actively contributed to alumni activities, including serving several terms on the board, most recently a second term as president. He was nominated for the Alumni of the Decade Awards in conjunction with the Broad Executive MBA Program’s 50th anniversary.
“He was an engaging and fun-spirited leader with a passion for excellence and success,” said D.J. Schroeder, fellow alumni board member.
Outside the Spartan community, Elfawal was a seasoned business professional with an extensive track record of accomplishments around the world, transforming and growing business units among publicly traded and Fortune 500 companies. As the president of Neoris USA operations, Sam oversaw business expansion across North America, leveraging the company’s proven leadership in nearshore outsourcing and SAP consulting.
Prior to joining Neoris, Sam served as global director for Dow Services Business at the Dow Chemical Company, where he consolidated multiple service lines, including IT, supply chain, purchasing, and environmental, under one business unit. His other high-level roles included key positions at IBM Global Business Services and SAP Americas.
In addition to earning his MBA from Michigan State University, Sam completed his undergraduate degree in electrical engineering at the University of Illinois.
