Michigan State University’s Institute of Management Accountants Student Chapter (IMASC) has had a busy Spring — as a new chapter on campus, they haven’t wasted any time giving their Broad College of Business members a chance for development, volunteer experience and learning opportunities.
The IMASC is a student organization founded in Oct. of 2013, an affiliate of the Institute of Management Accountants. Their purpose is to provide their members, mostly Broad College of Business students majoring in accounting or finance, the professional skills necessary to succeed in the field, as well as promote the CMA certification.
“The last year has been one of tremendous growth for our newly established chapter,” said Rebecca Wang, member IMA. “We’ve engaged with groups across MSU we wouldn’t have before, and I will look back on our community activities and know we not only made an impact around us, but also strengthened relationships between members.”
In January the group visited the Facility for Rare Isotope Beams (FRIB) on campus in order to understand how accounting management is important in relation to physics, ultimately enhancing students’ understanding of the variety of career opportunities they have. In February, mock interviews were held for several members to replicate the interview experience for realistic jobs they may be applying for in the future.
March proved to be even busier for the group. The chapter volunteered at Potter Park Zoo, held an educational session led by Anne Leighty and Jim Horsch, officers from the IMA Michigan Council, and visited DOW Chemical in Midland, an event that afforded members the chance learn about corporate opportunities at the company.
To become a member of the IMASC, fill out their online application; membership dues are $25 per semester, of $40 for the entire school year.
