Russell Johnson
Russell Johnson, associate professor of management at the Broad College of Business, is this year’s recipient of the Cummings Scholarly Achievement Award, presented annually by the Academy of Management’s Organizational Behavior (OB) Division to honor an early-to-mid-career scholar who has shown great levels of achievement.
The award committee who presented this prestigious award recognized his research successes, stating, “Russell Johnson has a very impressive record of productivity, having published over 100 articles and book chapters (including over 40 in top-tier management and applied psychology journals) since receiving his PhD in 2006. Russ’s research is notable in quantity and quality but also in its impact in the field of organizational behavior. According to Google Scholar, his work has been cited more than 4,400 times, with an H-index of 36. Publishing across several areas central to OB, the crux of Russ’s contribution comes from examining work motivation and subconscious and implicit processing in organizational settings. In studying these phenomena, he has also made significant methodological contributions by developing innovative measures to assess key constructs such as affectivity, identity, approach and avoidance motives, regulatory focus, and leadership. Russ is a prolific scholar with a strong reputation, and exceptionally well deserving of the OB Division’s Cummings Scholarly Achievement Award 2018.”
