Financial Aid and Scholarships

Understand the various costs associated with individual programs

  • Research financial aid options
  • Research MSU scholarship options
    • Students who have received the Presidential Scholarship must notify the Office of Financial Aid to apply the scholarship to their education abroad program.
  • Broad College Scholarships: Through the generosity of donors, the Broad College is able to award education abroad scholarships to all admitted Broad College students with a current year FAFSA on file at the time of application. (Students in The School of Hospitality Business receive scholarships through HB, rather than through the Broad College, and should check with HB regarding scholarship information.) Scholarships are awarded on a sliding scale based on program type and financial need, as described below. Please note that students must have a GPA of 3.0 or higher to be eligible and students who are unsure of their financial need level or FAFSA status should check with Spartan One Stop for confirmation.
      • MSU Faculty directed programs:
        High and moderate need: $2,000
        Low need: $1,000
        No need: $500
**Students will receive the above scholarship amounts for their first education abroad program. Students applying for scholarships for subsequent faculty-directed programs will receive scholarships as funds are available.
      •  Semester programs, exchange and direct enroll:
        High and moderate need: $5,000
        Low need: $3,000
        No need: $2,000
**Additional aid will be awarded to students enrolled in Broad-sponsored semester programs for which costs would otherwise exceed the on-campus cost-of-attendance.
      • Short-term partner programs, exchange and direct enroll:
        High and moderate need: $2,500
        Low need: $1,500
        No need: $1,000
      • International internship programs (Broad sponsored):
        High and moderate need: $7,500
        Low need: $5000
        No need: $2500

**Please note that the amounts above are scholarship awards for 2026-27.**

  • Passport Grants: The Broad College offers grants that cover the costs of a U.S. passport. To be eligible, students must be admitted to the Broad College and apply for their passport individually. Students should submit receipts and APID to bunnell@broad.msu.edu. Students will then receive a scholarship in the amount of the fees to their MSU student account.
