Spartans are known for their determination to make a difference, and this ethos can be seen in students, alumni, faculty and staff alike.
At the Broad College of Business, our staff diligently work to support the success of our exceptional students. This involves providing intake conversations with students, advising and coaching services, strong administrative support to keep offices running, teaching or developing programming to help Broad Spartans accomplish their goals.
Since 2018, the college’s Staff Leadership Committee has recognized standout staff who significantly impact our community. This year, Rachel Duncan, office supervisor in the Dean’s Office, received the prestigious honor.
Duncan has been in her role for four years and consistently brings a positive attitude and willingness to help others to her work.
“I am so grateful to be the recipient of the Distinguished Staff Award for this academic year,” she said. “I’ve always enjoyed operating mostly behind the scenes, so to be publicly recognized is incredibly meaningful (even though I’d rather be manning the proverbial spotlight instead of standing in it).”
Nominations were received from faculty and staff throughout the college, and many mentioned Duncan’s pursuit of efficiency in all areas.
“Rachel changed the culture of the Dean’s Office, greatly improving the climate and efficiency of the office,” one nominator said. Another mentioned how “Rachel has consistently gone above and beyond to make sure all levels of our college run smoothly and efficiently.”
She promotes a collaborative work environment, making sure everyone’s voice is heard. One nominator commented, “I have never worked with someone so collaborative, dedicated and selfless.” Duncan is “always ready and willing to listen.”
Duncan added, “The Broad College is filled with so many talented individuals who work hard to ensure the success of our students and employees. In my time here, I’ve seen a tremendous growth in the sense of community and collegiality.”
With this honor, Duncan becomes the fourth staff member to receive this award, alongside these past winners:
