The Byington Marketing Speaker Series hosts thought leaders in marketing and international business from the world’s elite business schools to present their cutting-edge research in East Lansing, Michigan, interact with marketing faculty and doctoral students, and engage with thought leaders in the MSU community.

This is the official speaker series of the Department of Marketing in the Eli Broad College of Business at Michigan State University and connected to the Byington Endowed Chair in Global Marketing and the Broad College’s Global Initiatives.

John W. Byington

John W. Byington, a marketing research expert and alumnus of Michigan State University, was a former president of NPD Group Worldwide, Inc. He was involved in developing an international presence for the NPD Group and served on the Europanel, a consortium of market research companies. He also opened NPD offices in England, Germany, France and Italy.

After his passing in 1994, the John W. Byington Endowed Chair in Global Marketing was established in the Department of Marketing in Michigan State University’s Eli Broad College of Business. The chair was created in 1995 through gifts from John W. Byington, Walter W. Byington and Judith L. Siegert.

John W. Byington Endowed Chair

Tomas Hult is the holder of the John W. Byington Endowed Chair in Global Marketing. He is also professor of marketing and international business, as well as director of the International Business Center. He is an elected fellow of the Academy of International Business (one of only about 90 fellows worldwide), and president of the Sheth Foundation (an academically oriented philanthropic foundation). He is one of the world’s most cited business scholars and sought-after executive trainers.
